Earthquake - Where to go to find out if we just had one

I swear I just felt an earthquake.

Where can I go to see if we had one?

At first there I could feel the house tremble...then, I started gently rocking back and forth in my chair.

Last time I felt one, I was still living in michigan...I was moving sideways on a couch that I was sitting on.

I think the quake back then was centered halfway between Mi and Fl, and a little to the right.

Definitely a weird feeling. Glad I don't live in Kaliforniah.

At first I heard/felt a low rumble. Then the house creaked a bit (as if getting hit by a shockwave/close sonic boom), then I started to sway laterally. the swaying faded slowly, and after about 10-12 seconds was pretty much gone.

I just checked that website after submitting my own report. Some folks down in Naples felt it too.

Show them this: http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/cus/STORE/Xslav_06/ciim_stats_1.html Those reports can't all be fabrication.

It reports the epicenter being 253 miles SSW of Apalachicola

Uhhh...if it was a 6.0 as stated on that site, should we be worried about a tidal wave / tsunami?

Up to a certain point it's not so much the strength but as any real estate issue will inform you, it's location, location, location.

If that earthquake had occurred beneath one of the canyons south of the Mississippi River mouth, there could be catastrophic tsunamis. The sediment deposited by the river exceeds the angle of repose for that sediment. There are several cubic miles that could easily shift. When it shifts, depending on the velocity of the shift, it could forcefully displace several cubic miles of water. It's like the difference between slowly moving you hand in bath water and forcefully moving your hand. One barely raises a swirl and the other sloshes across the basin.

If there's earthquakes in Florida does that mean there will be hurricanes in California?

Hurricanes are uncommon in California, but not unheard of. I believe there was one in the late 30's or late 40's that hit the Californian coast as a hurricane. Interestingly enough, I found an old Hurricane track from 1967 of a Hurricane that went up between Mexico and the Baja Peninsula over the water up into Arizona. The name of this storm was..... Katrina.
