Why do movies still bore us with credits?

I can understand offering credits to producers, directors, and actors, but why do we still bother with tremendously long lists of grips, lighting techs, and assistants? In the early years, that may have been the only way you could have gotten a job (the credits were your "resume" of sorts), but with computers and IMDB.com, why bother with this crap for our short-attention-span society?

Anyone have any good reason?

1. Screen Actors Guild (SAG)
2. American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA)
3. Actors' Equity Association (AEA)

A key grip is actually the chief supervisor of a union crew responsible for moving lights, dolly tracks, cranes and scenery

Forget the long credits

I can live with that. What really pisses me off is seeing commercials now at the beginning of a movie I just paid $10.00 to see. That's why I've all but ceased going to see first-run movies.

Walk-in and extra's in movies will rarely get there name shown in the credit unless they are due paying members of one of the many unions. I was a walk-in in a real stupid movie four decades ago and my name never appeared as I was not a card carrying union member. I did get paid $22 and lunch though

When you work your butt off tracking, gripping and pulling lights it's nice to know someone out there is giving you credit......if you don't like watching the credits get off your butt and leave the theatre....

Like I said, I don't mind the credits, it's the advertising at the beginning that irritates me. Besides, I work MY butt off everyday and I'm satisfied to get the paychecj every couple of weeks. Pats on the back are okay, but I don't expect them to put a plaque up on the office wall.

Then he would miss the very very very very end (after all the credits) of the last X-Men Movie.

That's funny, because I watched that movie on a plane just last week and I took the headphones off when the credits started rolling. When that last scene appeared on the screen I scrambled to put them back on! I missed out and had to ask the guy next to me what happened.

I won't spoil it, either.

To be honest, I agree, generally speaking, but on good documentaries and good movies, I become annoyed when they speed up the credits to ACCOMODATE THEIR ADVERTISING NEEDS.
There are many times when I wish to see such credits on a readable basis.

Anyway, my TV viewing on a overall basis, is very limited, I switch to commercial channels only PBS or its equivalent In Ontaro, TVO hasa repeat or a show of special interest to me.

One annoyance I have is, PBS or TVO or some commercial channels don't tell one that it will continued next week - Krikey, we need a TV diary equivalent to Windows Outlook 2007 on the TV screen - I'm dreaming, right, eh?

I really like the button on the remote named "Mute"; it's the very best feature for me!

At least they don't put them at the beginning of the movies anymore. (Think "Car Wash")
