What happened to PaulC ?

PaulC posted a Goodbye thread recently, and now I can't find his username.

I really enjoyed his posts. He had a terrific sense of humor.

Anyone know what happened to him?

See this thread mourning the demise of his username. He makes a brief reappearance there under his username StarCrossed.

A quieter passing is being effected by Tracy. Though Paul & Tracy both will deny it, I suspect that the acrimoniousness of the past couple of years just wore them out.

You may not know him well, as he frequented DD, but Pete Burton, a provider of extensive technical knowlege on the 617, has also reached a similar conclusion.

I miss him already.

Man, I'm gonna miss PaulC.

I've been avoiding most of the political threads in the OD forum, so I'm not sure If he got caught up in all the acrimonious back and forth. I hope he didn't.

I decided about a year ago that I was going to stop participating in the political threads. I don't enjoy them. It's like beating your head against the wall. Nobody changes their mind as a result of the discusion.

You lose some and you gain some. That's how the forum works....if I don't get banned before I'll probably disappear once I graduate college. I'll be so busy that I probably wont even have time to take a piss. We're all bound to go and I'm sure this forum will cease to exist in the future. After all, how many diesel clankers will be left in 20 years?

I'm willing to bet that quite a few of them will still be on the road, thanks in equal parts to :

1. Their inherent durability.
2. Hard-headed folks like us who keep them rolling.

"Changing someone else's mind" isn't always the goal.

A good lively debate is often very educational to all parties involved.

I have learned a LOT in such debates over the years, here and elsewhere, even from people that I vehemently disagree with.

Now that I think about it... ESPECIALLY from those that I vehemently disagree with...

Ya' know? Like the old sayings about "know your enemy"....

"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer", etc...

I agree.

Someone that would leave a great forum such as this, merely because of the antics of one or two obnoxious members, is a little too sensitive, in my opinion.

The knowledge and thought-provoking discussion that is found here is a rare thing in such online forums, and there is no way I would let a couple of insecure smart-a$$es chase me away from it.

On the rare occasions when insults and name-callings do start flying around here, it is usually because the person posting such things has run out of legitimate "ammo" in the debate, thus resorting to juvenile attempts to belittle or discredit his opponent. It is amateurish and trivial, and I don't let such things get to me.

People really do need to lighten up, grow some thicker skin, and not take this stuff so personally.

I liked PaulC too... I hope he gets over it and returns at some point.

Mike

Why must people delete their posts when the leave? TXBill was one of the better ones that ordered ALOT of threads and posts deleted when he left.

Makes no sense. If you do that, you might as well have not come here in the first place.

Sometimes people have reasons to delete their threads that we don't know about. If I left I would want everything deleted so people wouldn't be able to talk **** without me not being able to respond.

I have said it before and this probably won't be the last time. People don't have intelligent conversations here about politics and other controversial topics because their posts are like example books for logical fallacies and they don't even know it. This leads to a confusion between making a point and "getting over" on someone. This pisses people off and they probably don't even know exactly why they are pissed off.

"Disscussions" here are good argument for a representative form of government.

The above link isn't the easiest to learn from, google if you want to learn more. Read about logical fallacies and take a class in Critical Thinking, if logical fallacies are stressed.
