Talking Boat show day!!

Just got back from the boat Norwalk International boat show!

Fun day, not much has changed, except there was a lot more Euro boats this year. The prices kind of warp you, you say things like hmm this ones only $1,760,000 thats not bad.

The highs:
Cabo anything, short of a custom boat that is one sweet fish boat. Nothing is built better, than a Cabo.
Grandbanks/Eastbay, the attention to detail is second to none, truely the Rolls Royce of the boating world. The wood work is very custom and done perfectly of course. I said to the salesman I didn't like the helm seat layout, he said no problem that can be changed! Really other than price one cannot find fualt with these boats. They use all pocket doors, to save room, marble counter tops, ceder lockers, gold plated fixtures ect.

Hinckley of course was out in force, with boats that will make you drool, and wallet scream! The starter one the T29 is well into the $300k range, darn near $400k. But then again it wouldn't be a Hinkley if the price didn't make your heart skip a beat!

Vicum(sp?) was there with a nice down east sport fish.

The new Viking 64 was orgasmic! Awsome detail, availible with 2,400hp V12 MTU's that should provide a top speed of over 50mph and a cruise of almost 40 knots! The heads of this one actualy had alagator skin on the walls, way cool. I think the tags about $3M. The fuel burn will make the local fuel dock pucker. But what a great fishing boat, really top notch, only a very custom boat can really top one.

The Sunseeker 82 was amazing of course, about $5Mish. But now they have fraction ownership, you can buy into it for $1.1M plus $6k a month.

Now onto the smaller boats, Alden had a few nice offerings. One center console with an inboard diesel for $90k, a real nice boat at a fair price.

Hydrosports had a few new models, and they were nicely laid out, the 22 walk around was a very nicely done boat.

Overall not much has changed, Searay and Bayliner still sell boats like Toyota moves Camry's. There are a large number of ugly floating RV's most of the horrible ones are the spawn of Merdian, Carver, and Silverton. But on the other hand there are a lot of sweet looking boats now Surf Hunter, Chris Craft, Hinckley to name a few.

Sadly Bertram is now pretty cheesy, its really a shame there.

I have wanted one since I was probably about 5. I'm going to buy one the second I can almost afford it, and hold onto it until I die.

It has to be a Chris Craft Barrel Back, nothing else will do.

on lake tahoe there is a marina in which there is quite a few chris crafts and other brands of wooden boats.

if out there it is worth seeking out.

and the lake is worth a trip to see. just stunning.

very interesting geologically too.
