Here are a few shots from the MBCA meeting at Classic Center this weekend. The 1926-27 Benz is on consignment for the bargain basement price of $700,000

It was pretty awesome to see a 6.9 engine and tranny cutaway!

BTW, Hattie....there was a 600 Limousine there....sporting the license plate GROSSER.....sweet.

These monsters developed 1200 hp maximum at 1600 rpm, or 900 hp continuous at 1400 rpm, with a dry weight of 4400 lbs, not far off the Beardmore weight but developing considerably more power. The dimensions are also worth looking at: the Mercedes-Benz was 2.69 metres long, 1.02 metres wide and 1.35 metres high, quite compact for it's day, against the Beardmore's 3 metre length & 1.75 metre height. I do not have width dimensions at the time of writing.

That looks like a V12 to me, 6 cyls on each side. Maybe the rear set got shot off!

Not German engineered, but one of the most beautiful sounding gas piston engines ever. The Rolls Royce Merlin 27 litre V12. 1565hp at 3000 rpm/12,000 feet of altitude.

While famously powering many WWII aircraft such as Mustangs, Spitfires, Mosquitos and Lancaster bombers, it *has* been stuffed into cars by daring individuals. Now *that* would be a rush.

That would be a V12, not a V16. Count the exhaust ports and cylinders.

Look at the Webber carbs under the cowl! Whats that a 2 or 3 liter V12?

IMHO nothing sounds better than an old carb Ferrari V12 at red line!

Great idea for a thread!
What about the following; they would never have been without the car!

...or car hops?

..or Bullitt.
