So. What's in a word ??

In the beginning, the word went out to all. Then the word was changed to reflect new developments. The word went out again, but alas, not everyone got the word in the beginning, and not all of those who got the word in the beginning got the word that the word had been changed. So, some of those who did not get the word in the beginning now had the correct word, but some of those who got the word in the beginning did not now have it. (The correct word)

Then there was the rumor. The rumor was that the word had been changed in error, and the original word was in fact still the word. Much discussion followed. It was now assumed that some of those who did not get the word in the beginning did not currently have the correct word, but some of those who got the word in the beginning really did get the correct word.

Then the word went out about certain rumors concerning the word. The word on this was that these rumors were false, and that the word had indeed been changed. The original assumption was now assumed to be wrong, and again there was much discussion. It was finally assumed that those who got the word in the beginning never got the correct word, except for those who got the word that the word had been changed, and those people got the right word. Unless of course they believed the rumor and made the original assumption.

The word was now official.

The word went out that, contrary to rumor, the word had not actually been changed in error, but it was now acknowledged that the word had been changed prematurely. The original word was still largely the official word, except there were now some changes to the official word which were somewhat different than the changes to the original word which had been the object of rumor.

The official word, in it’s newly modified form went out again. This time, through all known channels of conveyance. Now, almost everyone had heard the official word, or some form of the original word, or at the very least had heard the word that there was word to be heard, but not necessarily that there were at least three versions of the word out there, nor at least two versions of this word were not the official word.

Then a meeting on the word was called, and there was much discussion. Why was there going to be a meeting about the word? Didn’t everybody already have the word? How was anybody supposed to get their work done if they had to go to a meeting about the word? Especially if they had already gotten the word?

At the meeting, the word went out that although there was word that had gone out and been changed twice already, it had in fact been virtually unaffected by rumor, except in a few isolated instances where some people had both heard and believed it. (The rumor.) But now it had become apparent that even the current official word still had some shortcomings which needed to be addressed. The word was then passed that the purpose of the meeting was to address these shortcomings and to dispel the rumor.

Then, everyone heard the official word at the meeting. Everyone now knew the history of the word, the history of the rumor, the reasons why the word needed to be changed (Both before and during the meeting.) and the original assumption was now shown to have been based on the false rumor.

Most importantly though, above all else, absolutely everyone had now received the official
word in it’s revised and most up to date form. *

* Except for those who did not get the word about the meeting. Apparently, the secretary didn’t get the word about the new computer glitch which instantly and automatically routed all master list internet e-mail distributions directly to the “Trash Folder/Recycle Bin”. At press time it had not been determined whether the problem was a genuine Windows-XP bug, user error, or the result of malicious system corruption (Hacker activity). An El Nino induced hardware failure also had not been ruled out. We are currently awaiting word on this.
