shot a gun for the first time this weekend....
i got a 20g shot gun from my grandpa a few weeks back. after cleaning it and learning about shooting me and my brother went 4x4in in my new truck and then went skeet shooting. i must say it was fun. i dont know what i enjoyed more, 4x4in or shootin. i hit more clays than my brother and hes been shootin for a couple of years now.

The most important thing in shooting (besides safety of course) is determining your dominant eye. I found out my dominant eye is the left one, and when I started shooting from the left my hits improved 100%.

I love skeet shooting!
I haven't done it in years, but I used to have a Browning 12 gauge automatic with a Cutts compensator and a nice skeet trap. What a fun Saturday afternoon!

You're not kidding. We just had our M-16 qualifying at Guard this past weekend, and there were a few righties in there who were suprised to find that they're left-eye dominant. Our instructor had us focus on a spot on the opposite wall, then make a small triangle with our hands. Looking through the center of the "triangle," we brought our hands back toward our faces and, instinctively, to our dominant eye. Very interesting and revealing!

Congrats! I was in Utah last week and went shooting with my youngest sons. They like the M1 carbine best. I have evolved from wanting to do the shooting to watching the boys do most of it.
At first, I watched them for safety's sake. Now, I get more enjoyment out of watching their progress and natural competitivness emerge. I magine someday soon they'll want to shoot my more powerful arms. I keep the weapons in a full size gun safe. |

Great gun to learn on. I have two .20 guages I hunt birds and rabbits with--a Ruger o/U and a Smith & Wesson auto. If you stick with a .20 shooting skeet, you will turn into one hell of a shot.

I used to shoot a lot of trap with a Remington 1187 (12 ga). I had a great time - but reloading all week so I could shoot on Saturdays got to be a chore, and then my favorite range closed down. Oh well. The guy who bought my shotgun was sure it had only been fired a few times. I think I must of put 7000 shells through that thing, I'm just fastidious about cleaning and oiling I guess.

I remember firing my first shotgun, a 12ga Wingmaster aboard a rolling ship headed to the Bahamas. I broke 3 out of 5....not bad for a scrawny kid.
