Anyone own a Scion?
I've been doing some research for a possible new car purchase for my sister. Her car(1998 Camry with 188K) is about to take a crap driving 100 miles a day.
The Scion is affordable and offers her all the stuff she would need and is sporty looking. Anyone have any feedback to offer? BTW, it could be either the XA(rounder looking one) or the XB(square shaped one. They both are in the same price range, although the XB appears a little larger to me. Thanks!

my step dad drives a chevy Aveo which is just a rebadged scion xa (and the aveo is made by daewoo) they are very similare in engine displacement and size.
ill say this.. for the price .. you get what you pay for.. i dont like it but he does, its strictly utilitarian. it gets him to work and back and hes happy with it |

I drove one of those Scion TC TRD or whatever (turd?) and thought it was decent enough. Though it was priced at 23K because its the "high performance" model. It's pretty peppy at 200 HP. Though its a big lump 2.4 of a 4 banger. I'd rather have a small six cylinder.
Anyways, they are marketed towards teenagers as a sporty car but I'd say this one handled like ****. An Accord with a V6 will feel sportier than this. I almsot thought the alignment was bad out of the factory, really early understeer and such. Then I read that thats how they are. If I had one i'd put decent tires and suspension on it. Probably last a good while though.

I was impressed with the Xb when I test drove one a few months ago. The stick gives you a bit more power, but the automatic is quieter on the highway due to taller gearing. The room inside is pretty amazing. My wife was concerned about taking out the front bumper on curbs, but otherwise I saw nothing wrong with it. People either like it or hate it. I like it.

Is that 100 miles of local delivery or a 100 mile commute? xA or xB would be tiring to drive 100 freeway miles a day. For freeway duty I'd go with a slightly older Corolla or another Camry.
The xB is so customizable that it might be a tempting theft target. Sixto 93 300SD |

A friend of mine owned a Scion TC for a year before she relocated to NYC. I drove it regularly and I was impressed at how nice it felt. It felt super solid, and the design and construction materials seemed to be higher than any other cars in its class. Thee engine was peppy too.
BUT the car had meager handling, and the driving position was quite awkward for a tall guy like me. The windows are so high that I had to raise the seat up pretty high to feel comfortable with my lines of sight out of the car. But raising the seat height also dramatically reduced head room. All in all I think the Tc is a great car for a shorter person. It had great styling and build for its class. Its really a handsome coupe! But as mentioned above, I would get very tired driving ANY Scion 100 miles a day. Lots of roadnoise and the rides are stiff. And if your friend is tall she might feel cramped in the Tc. I'd go for a well cared for recent trade-in Accord or Camry V6 before a Scion. Also try the Legacy GT, and Maxima V6.

My sister has a Scion sports coupe (whatever the model is). She loves it, but her and her husband a Japanese car people. The quality is really good as it is for Toyotas which is what a Scion is.

I recently rented a Kia Optima on a business trip. I was surprisingly very impressed. I had it for 4 days. Definitely worth a trip for a test ride. I had the V6.
