anybody here know anything about syracuse,NY?
 

Looks like she who must be obeyed has an interview in syracuse and I was wondering If we have to move there where do we not want to live.where are some good places to go.what are winters like there?that sort of thing.please,do not post the link for syracuse proper,been there,done that.thanks for your insights and thoughts.

Slightly better better than Buffalo.

I passed through there one Sunday,it was closed.

Brutal summers, brutal winters, population decline, economic decline, crazy number of taxes to be paid.

CHEAP real estate :greedy: :greedy: Peaceful + quiet. Plenty of room to expand.

Great sailing on Lake Ontario. Close to the Adirondacks. Close to the Finger Lakes. Jump on the Erie Canal for a cruise thru 19th century history. Jump on Amtrak and you're in Manhattan in a few hours.

Less than a half hour away from Orange County Choppers.

Interstate 81 runs through part of the city. You won't confuse that part a with a quaint New England village.

The local inhabitants once tried to pry the hubcaps off of Carleton's Vauxhall.

Beautiful country around Syracuse.

Just a short jaunt to the heart of 19th century Free Love at Oneida.

Nor that far from the coldbed of Shaker celibacy.

It's been a number of years since I've been there, but this comment does a good job of summing up downtown. Also, it seems like they added extra stoplights to make the city seem bigger. There are things to do there, but it couldn't be described as hoppin'.

Ever been to Worcester, Mass.? Syracuse is like its twin.

The first year I lived there (I went to college there) the city got 210 inches of snow. After a blizzard, some of the stop signs had to be dug out so you could see the word 'stop.' Coldest it ever got was -53 with wind chill. I also remember seeing icecicles there that would kill you if you happened to be standing under them when they fell.

It was pretty nice there in the spring and summer, though.

Generally the best places to live, as I recall, are the suburbs and the area toward DeWitt as you get away from the SU campus. But as you drive around the city, the places you would and wouldn't want to live should become apparent pretty readily.

Economically the city has been in decline since they filled in the Erie Canal in 1925.

In spite of all this, I did like living there and would move back if some opportunity came up.
