Help with Win2k server ... it has invented its own way of telling time!
Hi everyone:
I'm trying to diagnose a problem with our Win2k server at work. For some reason, the server is starting to "race ahead" in terms of the time. I'll adjust the time so that it reads the current time, and about 24hrs later, it's jumped anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours ahead! It's becoming a pain because users synchronize with the server's clock when they log in, and of course, then the wrong time is on all the client machines as well. I searched Microsoft's site, but really didn't come up with any real answers. Anyone have this problem, or maybe know how to remedy it? Thanks much! -Michael

Run NTP with a configuration to use an external server.

Thanks for the help, Matt. I'm now synching with a stratum 2 server at a local university, and all now seems to be well. It's just weired IMO - we've had this server for 3+ years and no problems with the clock, and now, all of a sudden there were issues with it skipping ahead big-time.
Oh well - I guess there are fixes when strange things happen. It's working now, so I'll stop wondering! Thanks again, Michael

Computers are usually horrible timekeepers.
