Wild weather across the nation!
Yeah, its wild.... at 7pm, it was 39° in Houston (southeast Texas), but 50° in Caribou, Maine (northeast Maine)- but they are still in the "warm" sector. Even Mt. Washington, New Hampshire is 43° - warmer than Houston. Its unbelievable. The cold air is heading east, but it will not be as cold, as the air is going to moderate.
Dallas did not even make it above freezing today. It in the upper 20s in Dallas now, with light snow falling. Blizzard warnings in Kansas, freeze warnings as far south as south Texas (all but the southern tip) and once again freeze warnings even in extreme southern Arizona/southern California.
Here is an interesting observation. Laredo, Texas was 71°, with a dewpoint of 69° at 6am this morning - southwest wind- thats tropical like. One hour later, the winds had shifted out of the north (cold front passed) at 32 mph, with gusts to nearly 50 mph and the temperature had dropped to 55°, with a 36° dewpoint. By 10am, it was 47°, with a 28° dewpoint. Houston went from 73° to 45° in two hours.... dewpoints dropped from the upper 60s to lower 40s. Drastic drop for sure.
TWC said that Dallas had a 24 hour temperature change by 46°. It was 75° at this time last night... now they are 29°.
Severe storms in the east tomorrow- even in the northeast - possible tornado threat. It looks like almost the entire state of Missouri is getting a moderate snow to heavy snows. Even Oklahoma is getting some heavy snow too.
Still mild here- its 48° at the airport, aircooled rain w/fog, but its 60° at my house, but tomorrow the cold air will rush in here too... highs only in the 50s this weekend.
So, blizzards, ice storms, record heat, bitter cold in the northern plains, freezes in unusual areas (southern Arizona/Texas). Wild, wild weather this week and will continue through the weekend.
