Haha, don't ask. I stay OFF the trails now, ever since I took the lowered 560SEC on one once up by Colfax. Found out the hard way the exhaust systems on them HATE being scraped up and wound up with a draggin' wagon.. shudder.... I'm definately ON road. Ever since.

Yeah I do a little off roading with my MB's to get to the good fishing streams. Get some strange looks from the pick up crowd, but they do ok. Long as you don't lower them...

Must piss them off that a rwd luxury car can get to the same back country spots as there super duty 4x4 off road monsters. Long as you keep them to sane dirt roads MB's do pretty good in the back country, just stay away from mud! Well at least on my car the higher performance summer tires are not mud and snow rated, so if you hit mud you don't go anywhere.

With a G class you should be able to pretty much go anywhere.

when a fella I knew decided to dirt-road test his Ford Festiva. Go ahead, laugh. This Festiva had a programmable EFI'd Mazda Protege 16V, coilovers, rally tires, full roll cage, etc. SCCA rally car. With stock exterior, no stickies, and faded paint. He said, "It's like a quad, but safer!"

The look on the GMC Yukon driver's face was priceless. Big off-road tires, KC Hi Lites, skid plates, the works. He was trundling down a gravel road at 20 mph when we passed him at 75-80 in a stock appearing Festiva!!!

The picture in my little comical post#3 is a Samurai.
I've been able to get in and out of places with a Samurai that no one else could due to its very small size and light weight, sometimes with the FWD and without.
It's no G, but is very tried and true, very inexpensive, and never, ever failed me.
Aside from fluid changes, few tune ups, and a single convertible top replacement at $150, it's given me nothing but delight. It's hauled trees, furniture, and a bunch of other things the other mini-jeep things can't, due to added safety features I just wouldn't use, like 3 point seatbelts for rear passengers, and a third brake light. It's rear seat is easily removable.
It's also only seen 3 tire changes. Due to the lack of weight, they just don't wear out.
With the behemoths on the road today, I don't use it as a daily driver for my safety, plus the fact that insurance would total it instantly if there were any damage. It accelerates like a 240D automatic at highway speeds. Hills have to be carefully planned.
For rural use, away from the lane drifting, overly aggressive, masses, it totally rocks.
From a distance, it can look like a mini G, and from a distance, a G can look like a Samurai, thus the original post

Man I wish I had one. I used to love the ML for its ability to tromp through snow. It was too high for me though, couldn't get my boat and bike up there easily.
