Another fine soul, laid to rest

My dear aunt Doris died in Germany this past Monday. She had been sick for a while but nobody knew that she had cancer throughout her body. She was a good and humble person. Her life was her kitchen which was the size of a closet, but she constantly turned out amazing and plentiful meals for family and friends. For birthdays she wouldn't bake one cake, but effortlessly crank out 5 or 6. Her house was the social center whenever we went there to visit, and everyone always felt welcome there. Like many Germans, she rarely displayed emotion, but her faint little smile told you everything was OK. She was one of the few older people who bothered to learn English, just so she can better communicate with us. A beloved icon in our family is now gone and she will be very much missed.

Theres no need to reply. I just think she deserved this tiny bit of recognition.

me too!

having mostly germanic ancestry i had some aunts just like that.

my aunt nila was scary when i was little. her brother uncle glen too. but after i was an adult i discovered that they were both sweethearts, they just looked gruff. they were acutally shy, but if you drew them out they were very interesting to engage in conversation.

now the relatives on my dad's side were heavy on the southern german blood. they tend to be kindof loud and boistrus. if personalities were personified by a dog they would be a big one that jumps up on you knocks you down and licks your face while thumping the floor with the waggy tail!

raymr, of course there is a need to reply. That is why you posted and that is why we are here. Sorry to hear of your loss, but it sounds like you have alot of fine memories of her. And that is what is important. Stories are made and grandkids should be told. Heritage is something to be proud of. We should all aspire to make positive impacts and memories for our younger generations to remember and pass down to future generations. So lives on your legacy. Shhheez, I went all George Lucas on that one.
