hi, i have a mercedes 300d but do not have a title for it, it runs and drives good, but cant put it on the road because of complications getting a new title. i was thinking if i could find a whole car for cheap with a clear title, that would be the easy way to go, i was wondering if you had a title for another mercedes you would be willing to part with? will pay good money

Frudulent use of official documentation is a Federal Offence. I am presuming you have no intention of this, but, to ask a second party to consolidate your intent is Intrastate Crime...FBI territory!..not something I need .

I suggest you ....Google... Titles, Transfere, etc, and use one of the many services that claim to be able to get titles for vehicles....of course you could always file for lost or abandoned title in your own state.
If you have the vehicle, you can claim ..Mechanics Lien... and go through proceedure.
Sorry, ...no can do..., now you have told me what you are hoping to do.
dk.

What's the conscientious of opinion?

so, you are thinking he may have a stolen vehicle?

the only way i would surrender a title is if they bought the car it goes with. after i have the money, whatever they do with it after that matters not to me as long as i have no knowledge of it. if i knew he had stolen goods i believe i would report him.

Yea you really have to wonder what some people are thinking, or not. The first time that guy gets pulled over with a phony VIN#, he's screwed. Usually the 2nd things cops do after a stop is check the pillar for a matching VIN #, especially on Mercedes, inspection station too even an old one. Crooks and cheaters are drawn to the cars as much as the enthusiasts. Ebay can be a great resource, it can also be a lying deceitful house of horrors. When buying a MB, question everything especially the paperwork.

Tom... I have no idea what he's thinking of doing.. I just don't need any complications made by someone else.

I make enough of my own.

Here's a gem from another forum

Some guy from England a couple of days ago over at Benzworld ( Newbie, 5 posts) asked for a copy of MB stationary so he could forge a letter from them. Said he needed it for the sva test for his Mercedes. In brief, he said that Mercedes told him his 170 conforms to several EC directives, but they wanted $235 GBP to put it in a letter. He proposed to copy the body of the email onto the letterhead and use that to get the car registered, and save a bunch of money.

Benzword reamed this guy a new one over that:

Wow, asking people to violate copyright law, and forgery, in their first post! Nice!

To which he replied: I personhally have no problem avoiding paying what I believe to be extortionate charges for very little work from Mercedes. In England it is a civil matter at the most. Still, I guess there is always some little person willing to stand up and defend the Daimler Chrysler Motor Corporation. Good for you!

Then they really piled on this guy:

Your request clearly indicates your indication to commit FRAUD! And anyone who provided you with what you requested can be considered an accessory.
Ex Engineer is not just a "little person", he is just saying it is wrong. The seemingly small things determines the character of the person. For me he is a "big person". You may save a couple of hundred doing this. But you may spend thousands defending a lawsuit. Furthermore, whats the point of putting an email on a letterhead? That email may prove where it came from

Another: Using MB's letterhead might not be a crime, it is truly unethical. I hope MB sues to the full extent of the law

He then repilied: "Americans"......

Then they REALLY jumped on this guy:

"It's nothing to do with being American....I'm British, and It's clear to me you are trying to forge a document to mislead others. I have no idea what a British sva test is. So far as I am aware you need an EEC certificate of conformity. I wouldn't touch that car of yours with a bargepole"

and:

I certainly would not send a forged document and would not help somebody else doing that

and
Yea Americans, where would you be without us, living in Berlin?

and
Being honest and law abiding, damn those Americans, LOL

and

Without us you would be writing in German

and

And goose-stepping in Trafalgar Square

and

Among other things, in the USA this would be a conspiracy to defraud the DOT - a FELONY. O would suppose the UK has simillafr rules about defrauding the MOT. It's the UK's Ministry of Transport you are trying to dupe, right? As an aside, Mercedes Benz USA employs people to read forums.
I wouldn'tbe surprised if Mercedes Benz UK had people who performed the same function.

Personally I'd pay Mercedes Benz their fee. It's a good deal cheaper than the hourly rate of a good attorney, and at the rate this is going........

and:

Kiss my A$$

This is not just an American thing to be ethical you scum
I hope you don't get help from anyone, now get lost!

and

Looking for another "dodgy Dossier", LOL

and

("Americans")

I agree. Ethics and decency are so "yesterday". At least to some people

and

Ethics ...yuck, and if you don't get caught it's not illegal

and

There are some Americans who might be of assistance. There was this guy from Enron, I forget his name......And in the future, we'd prefer BLOODY AMERICANS. It's a little more humorous. We like Benny Hill

and

Yes, what (he) is asking is to commit fraud. But you know what sucks?
He's going tgo get away with us while law abiding schmucks like us pay the stupid fee. rfeason why the hospital bills in the US are so expensive-people who can't afford it don't pay their bill, so the people can afford it pay their bills

and

My side hurts from the endless laughter

he probably bought or was given the car without title.and it probably has a lien against it,so to try to get a duplicate is out of the question,so he figures i'll just get a different title, but he would also need the vin tags to match the title or he would be in deep $#&* if he was ever in an accident or whatever.i bought a 1966 ss chevelle years ago all i wanted it for was the rear clip.it came with title and i kept all the vin tags and frame so if i ever want to make an ss and not clone one i can.
