I hope she put in a complaint with the Hotel manager. No excuse for that kind of behavior from the staff. I would have demanded some type of compensation, either in the form of new shoes or a hotel comp. for her stay. Either way, the shoes would have been trashed.

She said when she saw them trying on the shoes she just walked out of the room real fast, the maids never said anything. Needless to say she didn't leave a tip at the end of her stay. She never complained to management. She sprayed the shoes with disinfectant but my granddad told her they would just buy her new shoes in Hong Kong. She left the shoes in the room when they checked out. Now she says she wants to go to Italy next summer because in Italy the maids don't try on her shoes they just laugh at them.

leaving the shoes was probably the best tip she could have left for them!

i think in general there is no love lost between the chinese and japanese. especially since ww2 when the japanese took over manchuria and raped and pillaged huge areas of china.
