i didnt see it but i feel that generally immigration is driving our economy. illegals benefit the economy too i believe. i want to believe if they were legal the economy would benefit even more.

Is it too much to expect that the government will enforce the laws it passes?

Yes.

They're far too busy doing really important stuff, like:

---fighting an astronomically expensive and highly ineffective war on drugs

---pouring ever-increasing amounts of money into a failing public education sysytem

---continually increasing the size and scope of expensive, counter-productive, and ultimately doomed entitlement programs such as Social Security, the Prescription Drug Program, etc...

---protecting the "sanctity of marriage" from homosexuals (while conveniently ignoring the fact that more than 50% of heterosexual marriages today end in divorce)

---endlessly searching for new ways to separate you from your income, while simultaneously inventing increasingly stupid and wasteful ways to spend it for you

---and certainly most importantly, saying and doing anything that will ensure their re-election, so that they can do it all over again next term!

i disagree that the public school system is failing. it may be in some places but not here and not most places imho.

And he didn't even mention the noble and honorable efforts of democratizing poorly developed and backwarded civilizations.

Hardly. The only thing I've seen them do is take jobs that legal citizens would otherwise be working. Then, they send half the money back to their home country.

We need to get the border patrol more power. "Stop or I'll shoot." (In the appropriate tongue.)

The claim that they do jobs that Americans don't want to do is total BS. Before this whole immigration issue got out of hand, there *was* Americans doing it.

I politely disagree with your statement above on this issue FI..In watching this report it seems even the Americans interviewed admit that the mexicans flooding into the US are not taking jobs away from Americans. The fact seems to be that if illegals didn't do the work that Americans feel are beneath them then it just wouldn't get done OR it would get done for substancially more money. Unless your prepared to pay $10usd+ for a gallon of OJ because we are protecting the american worker what else makes sense?

One thing does bother me, the impact on our social system is taking its toll...schools are overcrowded in some areas because of the illegal population boom as are hospitals and other public services. This does ire me because they(illegals) are not contributing to the tax base but they are taking everything they can from the system. This is not corect to me..

another thing

Who says they are putting their earned money back into the US economy?

HUGE amounts are being remitted to Mexico (Note the storefronts "Envie su dinero a Mexico", JetPeru etc.), Nicaragua, Guatemala, etc. rather than being spent here in the USA on goods and services.

A big problem is the country is getting overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of illegals. When the boat gets swamped it will capsize eventually. There is a limit to the capacity to absorb.

The rough humor goes that the new President of Mexico has announcd that there will be no Mexican participation in the next US Olympics, everyone who could run jump or swim has already left the country

The unemployment rate is currently 4.5%. People have a bad memory. Between 1980 and 1994 unemployment was as bad as 10% and never dropped below 6%. 6% was considered real good by our standards back then.

Today unemployment is 4.5% and people complain about illegal aliens taking away our jobs. What's wrong with you people?

Either drop the borders north and south & declare a United North America or enforce the border restrictions.

This all-things-to-all-people is f**ked-up and doesn't work.

I have to agree with a few of you. I'm not against immigration, but I AM against illegal immigration.

Sorry, I just don't buy into the fact that these people should be living here without a care, when the average joe is paying thosands of dollars in taxes, the legal way. Here's my opinion..

Round up all the illegals, and offer them cititzenship (with all the usual paperwork and costs). If they decline, back to mexico they go. If I have to pay taxes, so do they.. the laws are in place for a reason, and seeing these jackasses marching in the street about "illegal immigrant pride", waving mexican flags.. only urks me since the government does nothing to stop it. First off, it's one thing if they're here and are "proud to be in America". It's entirely different when they're literally just USING this country to send cash back to Mexico, whilst waving Mexican flags in the US *AND* not learning the langauge.

The problem is that there isn't enough of a deterrant to people crossing illegally. They get caught, they go back.. and then they try again. "Border Security" should be more of a "If we catch you doing it, you better hope that tunic is made of kevlar" thing.

Want to live here? Fine.. just:
*Learn to speak at least basic English
*Come here the LEGAL way. That means paying taxes like the rest of us.
*Spend your money in the US, *do not* send it to Mexico. (Unless here legally, and even then.. that's pretty bad for the country as a whole).
*Feel free to wave a mexican flag, so long as it's beside the American flag.
*This isn't Mexico. Abide by our rules, and leave your 'ghetto' ideals behind. Not sure about you folks, but a few towns over is a heavily illegal-infested area, and at least two times a week there's a gang-related shooting going on. The suspects are almost always illegals.

The US isn't the fix to Mexico's problems. Mexico needs to do that, itself.. and surely not by sending over its entire population to work here.

Add "as long as we can see some benefit in it for us" and I'll go along with that.
