If this same principle was applied to the USA, there'd be a lot of rich and happy Native Americans.

Anyway I am against big payoffs in general I think it just makes the lawyer rich. Was his life worth $400M? Well if he had to potential to earn $400M over the past 50 years yeah ok. If he was making $5k a year back in the 50's when this happend adjust that to $50k today, hmm not seeing it.

My point is doing this is just going to piss of the cubans more. We can't keep digging in the past, what now lets go sue every German who we can tie to the holocost. Then lets start go after former slave owners in this country.

When do we let the past die? Castro is going to die soon, and Cuba will open up, the world moves on.
Actually, there WAS a settlement from the Holocaust. The German government paid claims to survivors, if I remember correctly. Albeit, the payment was pitiful, but at least it was symbolic. In that case there were living victims. There are no longer any living victims of slavery in this country.

They already are and they already do.

It is guilt-money in the form of tax-free casino earnings.

That’s my point, revenge is a dish best served cold. This could go in circles and the only people who are making money are the lawyers. It happened a long time ago, most people that it happened to are dead or getting there.

BENZ-LGB I have nothing against attorney’s but I have looked into enough of these cases to see that a certain percentage are dollar sign driven. I just don't think that’s right, because it drives the cost of everything up. In general I dislike large settlements.

Bad things happen, its best just to move on and put our efforts towards preventing a repeat. Castro is going to be dead soon, my generation is going to have to deal with this now. I want this issue done with and I want trade with Cuba again. Suing the heck out of Cuba in US courts isn’t going to be conducive to this goal. Whats done is done, a few million isn't going to change anything.
