Hughes net internet service
Do any of ya'll have it and are you happy with it? I live in a very rural area and all I can get is AOL or Hughes. And I'm tired of AOL. They promise much faster speeds, but I hear uploading is slow.

If memory serves me, you dial in for upload only and download is via the dish. I've heard there is a lag between the two, and it is *not* cheap. (You *are* talking about the dish, correct?)

Yes, it is the dish. But I was under the impression that no phone line is involved. Do you mean phone dial in for upload??

I too would be interested in user reviews of the dish units for a client of mine who is too far for typical ground embedded data services.
Receiving data via the satellite and using dial up would be a horrendous mess for configuration. The signalling time would be painful. |

I have used it and found it to be much better than dial-up, not as good as dsl or cable.
Hughes is the new name for Directway. It is the bundle that DirectTV sells. WildBlue and Starnet? are the competition. Satellite internet is pricey and unreliable in bad weather. Watch out for contract terms. If you buy through a third party they may hook you into terms that are not in your favor. Compare the length of the commitment and the hardware/installation (upfront) costs. |
