GoogleEarth & Metadata
I couldn't find any. I did find this:
Common questions about Google Earth 1. When were these pictures taken? How often are they updated? Our images are photographs taken by satellites and aircraft sometime in the last three years. The images in Google Earth are updated on a rolling basis. 2. Are Google Earth images captured in real time? No, they aren't. Our images are photographs taken by satellites and aircraft sometime in the last three years. 3. Why do I see blurry pictures when I go to my house? Google Earth combines data of different resolutions to offer a seamless viewing experience, and some locations may look a bit blurry. We offer high resolution imagery (greater than 1-meter per pixel which provides an aerial view of approximately 1500 feet) for thousands of cities and more are on the way. 4. Will my computer be able to run Google Earth? Google Earth takes advantage of the 3D graphics capabilities standard on most computers. If you are using Google Earth on an older machine, or a notebook computer that does not have 3D graphics capabilities, you may not be able to run the application. |

When Google Earth arrived on the scene it was using the same B/W photos of the farm as the USGS 'seamless' site...based in part on what I know about the history of our land and when certain things were done out there before we bought, they were shots from at least 5 years ago.
The current crop of Google pics from the Milano area are in color and, knowing when and where I'd mowed the pastures, they must have been made after mid-August of 2005 but before any cold weather, say late October '05.

Found a bit of metadata.
Go to "Layers" and go to the bottom and there's a button for DigitalGlobe. When you punch that, the image footprint is displayed with the date. I can't tell whether that is the acquisition date or posting date. But they're probably with a month or so of each other. There are a lot of images posted for the Baghdad area. Somebody was even able to pick-out a large explosion. B |

And, for grins, Google Earth to Marana, AZ and look at the Evergreen Air facility. In addition to the dozens of mothballed airliners, fully 99% of all the Beechcraft Starships ever produced are sitting there waiting to be destroyed.

) . We had to move that thing three times that summer. After closer inspection I can see a pile of top soil in my driveway so I can narrow it to the day. Last edited by MedMech; 01-17-2007 at 10:50 PM. |
