Murder or accident?

I just discovered a certificate of death of the original owner of my house.

Date of birth was 10-8-1881.

Time of injury, 8-12-1953 about 6am.

Condition directly leading to death, " Gunshot wounds or head injury".

Accident, suicide or homiside, it says " Probably accident"

I guess the pain of the head injury lead him to shoot himself more than once.

We always thought this house was haunted.

I'm no suicide expert but 6am seems like a strange time for a suicide. Seems more likely he got up early to go rabbit hunting, tripped and fell when his gun went off??

Or...the thought of having to face yet another day filled with pain (or frustration or plain emptiness) may be enough to cause a man to want to take his life.

Guy I was in the navy with had a sister whose husband beat the crap out of her pretty often over several years. One day she found him dead, two shots to the back of the head. Local coroner ruled it suicide. Low population density, everybody knew each other. That was the end of that.

Sounds like a good solution all-around.

who says our legal system is dysfunctional?

this is a perfect example of our government in action. i witnessed it first hand when i was on the school board.

the governing body can pass whatever laws they want. the folks in the trenches will usually find a way to do it their own way in the end.

and often, as in this case, it works.

suicide knows no time....Reminds me of some slides I had to duplicate for the FBI at one time. They were of self inflicted gun shot wounds to the head and the FBI was doing a study on the trajectory of these weapons. i can still see em today...

Ahh it happens.

You should see some of the arrow heads that were pulled out of the walls of old houses up the line from me. Now tell me someone wasn't killed in those places.:D

I don't really beleive in ghosts, my grandparents built there last house on some indian graves. They had guys come down from Yale I think to remove the remains, never had an issue. Its not that uncommen in certain areas of my town to find these graves when digging foundations.

Having said that I was in one house about six months ago that gave me the creeps I just couldn't place it. Built in the late 18th century, with a lot of updating, but something just felt off...
