Look out, here come the refugees
http://www.vdare.com/rubenstein/refugees.htm
I've been hearing reports of anywhere from 1.8 to 4 million Iraq refugees are currently living in surrounding nations, and those nations are complaining loudly, saying we should shoulder a much bigger share of the burden, being as we precipitated the crisis to some degree, the extent of which will be debated. So far, Bush is allowing only a handful in. I'm wondering what pressure will be brought to bear and when we'll acquiesce.

I thought there was a thread on this a couple of weeks ago? I read somewhere (WSJ, I think) that this is a done deal and we have already acquiesced. There was a great interview of an Iraqi doctor on NPR last week about how a lot of the professionals had been secretly hoping this would happen so they could split.
Maybe we can send a bunch of pinkos over there for a little quid pro quo on a person for person exchange? (read joking here, mr. sensitivity ) I don't know enough about this to have formed an opinion. On one hand it will further screw up infrastructure that we couldn't even handle in the wake of Katrina. On the other, what do we owe them since we imposed a lot of dislocation on them. I'll have to read up on it more. |

I'm just sure I'd fit right in over there.
America to the world: "We're tired of all this open space we have. Not to mention being so badly out-peopled by China and India. Come on down!"

Not *more* people!
Suggestion: Instead of coming here and overloading our system further, they can go back to or stay in Iraq, fight the "insurgents" (read: terrorists) themselves, and rebuild their own country.
Sorry, we've already got 300 million mouths to feed (at least 150 million too many, methinks). The U.S. is full up -- and we can't afford to do Standing Room Only. If all you can do is bad-mouth us and demand that we honor your culture while you trash ours, stay home. Check back with us when you're civilized. By which I mean, when you no longer murder civilians with carbombs, you no longer riot when something we say or write offends you, and you have something valuable to contribute. .

Yep,fighting global terrorism, restoring democracy and insuring a peaceful,trouble-free infrastructure where elderly grandmothers can walk the streets with their Grandchildren without fear, where people of differing faiths can accept eachother with tolerance and understanding.
Why must small minds belittle our accomplishments?

But you're calling it about right.
