Mercedes in the snow

Around here, in Nevada County, up by Truckee, it has been known to have snowed so hard that people
have resorted to cannibalism

see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donner_party

I had a friend (Veronika P.) who was an African American business executive, in Real Estate relocation, and part of her job was to wine and dine realtors, and one evening she had to take six of them out to dinner.

But she had a wicked, vicipus and over the top sense of humor which could come out in the strangest ways.

Anyway, she phoned up a posh San Francisco restaurant and made reservations for seven persons, in the name of "Ms. Donner"

When they arrived, they had to wait in the restaurant until their table was ready.

Finally, over the PA loudspeaker, crisp and clear for all to hear, came the announcement she had been waiting for:

"Donner, party of seven, your table is ready"

ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS MOMENT. You had to be there.

My '83 300D (waiting for it to die any minute) is my snow beast. Four killer snow tires and 100lbs of sand in the trunk. I try to keep the tank full. Car goes pretty well in the snow. It helps that it is slow off the line. Most sheet metal on the car is dented or rusted. I figure if some fool is going to slide into me, I want to be in this car.
Oh and a buddy used to use the name "Danger" whenever he took a big group to dinner. Same sort of announcement, "Danger, party of 12". The Donner bit is a tad wicked. PBS had a thing on the Donner party many years ago. Really rough to watch.

My E430 handles the snow quite well. Four Toyo snow tires and a light right foot help, as does the ESP.

I'm embarrased to say (it was so warm through december) that I diddn't put my snow tires on this year, and now I'm out slipping around with the avrage sucker. Supposed to be 40 F next Wednesday though so if I can survive the weekend I might slip by. I have had to avoid hills 'up' the last few days but it hasn't caused me as many problems as I would have thought. I love snow tires.

Jim, did your friend ask if the 'chuck' steak was fresh?

No snow tires on mine.

It's been "beached" before because of it. I guess donuts in the k-mart parking lot is the only good thing...
