Sir Phil Hill
I read recently that Phil Hill, the first of just two americans to win the F1 driving champioinship in 1961 is in poor health. He is I believe 80.
Phil drove a great many fantastic cars in his day. He won the championship driving for Ferrari. His last major victory (that I remember) was at Nuremburgring in, I believe, '67 driving a Chaparral coupe with a high wing, an automatic tranny, a fiberglass tub and a big block chebby motor. He is held highly by any one who knows him, as a gentleman. He is extremely knowledgable about the mechanical aspects of a car and up til a few years ago was vintage racing old Ferraris with great vigor. The British have some excellent traditions, one of which is Knighting accomplished citizens so they can be called Sir Stirling Moss or Sir Paul McCartney etc. Too bad there is not an American equivilant. Sir Phil Hill. I like the sound of it. Tom Walgamuth
