"Diesel" and "convertible" are usually not found together in the description of a Mercedes

Those 220SE and 350SE cabrio models are pretty impressive, and their asking prices generally reflect that....

I need $55,000.00

I am currently reading Tim Slade's Original Mercedes Benz--Coupes, Cabriolets & V-8 Sedans 1960-1972--A Restorer's Guide.

The one for sale looks like the one on the book's cover.

Those cabrios will only continue to increase in price!

If you think of a car like this one as an investment, then it is not such a bad way to invest money.

Other than real estate, there are few investments that do as well, or better, than car collecting.

Prices on collectible, rare cars keep appreciating. Unlike other investments tax rules on investments, such as cars, tend to be more favorable.

Of course, this is not for the faint of heart.

Even if not considered as an investment, there is the sensual pleasure of looking at a car like this one and actually driving it.

Alas, I too have other things (not necessarily better) to spend my money on.

There is always the lottery, however!

To make car collecting a worthwhile investment, you have to love to do it and not do it for the money.

I would rather that car stay as a gasser.. A diesel vert isn't something I find appealing..

That's true for most collectible items bought as investments.

i would have said it was never offered with the 220 engine.

guess i would have been wrong.

i am pretty sure i have never seen one with that motor before.

looks pretty nice. that body style is very nice.

Yeah it would be a lot slower, loud, and you would have to smell it.

Sweet car! Price is about what I would expect.

Those coupes and convertibles are some of the most beautiful cars ever made. Just six years ago I was looking for a 280SE 3.5 convertible with the low grill in Los Angeles to buy and ship to Holland for a friend; the average price was between $30K and $50K, now you see them for $100K and up. Even the coupes are in the $30k range now.

A lot of coupes were transformed in to convertibles, especially in the US.

Is the color of the seats supposed to be different than on the doors?

The way I always look at a price like this for any old Mercedes is what else can you get for the money.....

For 55,K I would rather be behind the wheel of the '65 MB as opposed to an '07 BMW M3 convertible.
