"Can't I just get a warning?"

"You already did; that big white sign with black numbers that says 'speed limit'."

I had a street racer today that asked, "what do you know about these engines anyway" with a big s*** eating grin on his face. I then wrote him for every illegal modification which is a 3 grand ticket.

I love it when we're buying dope from the local street dealers and they ask, "Are you the police? I know the law and if you're the police, you got to tell me."
Hmm...

It's perfectly legal for the police to lie to you, but it is not legal for you to lie to the police. Go figure.

They can't actually 'do' the drugs they are selling or buying, but while they are playing buyer or seller they can lie since it is part of the role they are playing in an investigation.

You, on the other hand, as a seller or buyer, will be breaking the law whether they say they are the police or not.

If you lie to them you are interfering with their investigation.

When I read some of those posts, I seemed to be getting the feeling that some of them enjoyed the power they had over the drivers, and that they enjoyed giving them tickets; the way a teacher makes a student stay after school in detention. The biggest difference is that the punishments handed out by teachers usually does not involve a monetary fine and a record of sorts (which usually leads to more money being spend on higher ins. premiums). Both have gotten their satisfaction at sticking it to the offender.

In their defense, I suppose hearing "I pay your salary" does get old quickly, and you get annoyed quickly, and want to punish them for that idiot cliche that you have heard a thousand times.

Did you guys read this one? Bold emphasis is mine.

Listen at this one, Tonight on a traffic stop for speeding and I approach the vehicle and its a really big woman, 300lbs +++, in a little skirt with bleach blond hair and bright red lip stick sitting there. I asked for her DL and reg then stated that I pulled her over for speeding and she said please dont give me a ticket because I thought we could go out for coffie later. I said I will be right back and I was at my car and forgot the insurance and went back up there. Well, as I made it back to the window she had pulled up her skirt so that Itttttttttt was showing with no panties. It had more hair than on my head and she was just smiling and I said you need to fix yourself. I almost did't make it back to my car without puking my brains out. I had to let everyone see the image thats with me. I wrote her a 140.50 ticket ha
PS: Notice there is no talk of race on that thread. Zero.

when i get stopped, i never try to argue anything...normally...i figure they have heard it all. and when they ask questions i answer as uninterestingly as possible. i do not want to pique their interest. if they ask what my hurry it i say no particular hurry. if they ask how fast i was going i say i don't know (i don't, exactly). short concise answers. nothing that sounds like an argument. then they decide whether it will be a warning or a ticket. since i rarely ever go more than 9 over and i always keep the record clean, i usually get a warning.

thank the lord for ticket diversions.

the fines though are getting so high that alone is beginning to provide enough detriment. 185 last time! for 11 over.

I suppose a fringe benefit of the job is the power trip they get. Where else can you dress somebody down and not get punched in the face? I'd be happy if they just wrote the ticket and went on their own merry way but they seem to like to rub it in. Only thing I have ever needed them for is to fill up the police report so I can claim insurance. Can't think of any other good use for them.

Well, you know you are now in his power. If you think that you can insult him and he will not do something you are going to regret, you are just plain dumb. Yes, in a perfect world, he would be professional and none what you say would matter and what not but this is the real world.

I think I saw a T-shirt for military snipers that said "Why run? You'll only die tired" Same thing here. You can argue all you want, plead all you want. All you are doing is giving him an ego boost. Only things i say are "Yes, sir" and "No, sir". I won't give him the satisfaction of watching me grovel

The next time your pulled over for speeding say this:

Speed is relative. From where I was sitting YOU were the one speeding.
