By about noon tomorrow - we’re probably gonna find out.

I can write my name in the sand with one skid (both in print and a darn good cursive).
Fun at the local lake beaches, until the crowds start showing up.

I can’t say that I’ve ever tried that one before though.
Don’t see why not. Probably as fast, if not faster than those two as well. Not because I’m any better at being a pilot. But because the MD530F is a much more stable platform in a hover than any Robinson.
(Note their rolling wobble pulling into the hover. I wont have to fight/correct that.)

I just sent that to my dad. He’s always up for a good “Fling-Wing Challenge”.
If I know him, the phones’ about to ring, and he’ll be on his way up in the morning.

Not a US vs. Japan contest though.
It will be more like: Young Hot Shot Stick-Pig in his 530F vs. Dad, the Mega Hours Vietnam Vet in his 520N. (Also the Hot Shots’ instructor from day 1. So, I’ll not be putting any money on the outcome. Daddy be good. Really good. A “like magic” kind of good.)

Guess I’ll be making that table and bottle holder tonight.

Now - I will wager on the wife saying: “What in bloody hell is that for?” and “Oh Lord....” when I tell her.

Hmmmmm - If mom comes, we could make this a 4 way, or better yet, a Team Competition.

Damn - Leo - Change that 1500 to ?????.
(Maybe we can write it off as a "Training Exercise" )

Well, get somebody out there with a video camera. I want to see the two of you see who's the fastest.

After that, you can try openning a bottle of wine with a corkscrew. THAT I would love to see!

Well - Dad agrees to come up for the challenge. (More like - Come up to kick my...)

I’ve started the work on the bottle holders. Keep in mind - there’s a butt load of wind hitting that thing.
I’d sure hate to see the thing go skipping across the tarmac, shattering beer bottles everywhere. True alcohol abuse, that.

The bugger we’ve found isn’t in the table for holding the bottles though. It’s in the damn opener. First off - we didn’t have one of those large, closed circle type openers. So I went and bought one. Second is mounting it to the skid. Luckily my 530 is set up for snow skids and emergency floatation. That gave me a place to mount the opener. Had to add some length to it - no big deal. Had it mounted ridged to the skid though - Very big deal. I practiced on a bottle duck taped to a fence post. If busting (more like crushing) the top off a bottle constitutes opening it - I win.

So - back to the video. Oh -I see - Theirs is mounted with some sort of semi-ridged type thingy. And the bottles are too. Duh.
(And did you see the guy open that one with the side of the mount, not the opener? DQ !! The bottles obviously can rock side to side, but not up and out. Got to figure that one out, too. Epoxy bottle into rubber radiator hose segment perhaps. ?????)

So at this point. Dad (in his spare time) is working on some sort of shock mount for the openers. (530F and 520N skids are not the same) And I’ve pretty much moved on to all the flying that hit us like a brick when this beer opening event thing came up. Including jetting a family down to Guatemala City. OMG - That’s one big hole they have there. Kind of put playing around with beer bottles into perspective.

We do a bit of heli flying for real estate folks here too. That stuff comes in waves for some reason. We got hit by the wave, right about the time we got hit with a day of 30+ kt winds. So that’s still going on (make-up flights). In fact - I take off here in about 30 minutes with one. (if they show)

So - It’s all still a go for the Beer Bottle Challenge. Just not quite there yet for a date.
