the twenty hours of lemans

yesterday i got up at 445 showered and drove my wife to the air port in indianapolis.

then i turned the truck southward toward houston. i arrived here at about 230 am indiana time.

i am getting too old for this $hit!

kindof fun that i still can do it though.

btw here for a nephew's wedding on sat. i brought the truck on the chance that i might want to drag back some benz parts.

Nothing like a good long solo road trip to clear the mind.

Here’s to a safe return.

Agree that long solo trips are good. Bought my current car on eBay from seller in Dallas; flew to Dallas and drove it home to Fairfax, VA. Would do it again.

When I attended ERAU in Prescott AZ (84-86), I had an old Bellanca Scout that I could fly home to San Antonio TX in between trimesters, if I wanted to.

I also had a ‘71 Datsun 1600 pickup with a 35 gallon aux tank in the bed.

I much preferred the non-stop drive in the truck.
(That’s right - Believe it or not - I took driving over flying.)

Just me...The open road...A cooler full of PB&Js and Jolt-Colas...And my trusty CB radio.
I even installed a throttle lock, so I could sit sideways across the bench seat, stretch my legs and enjoy my PB&Js.

Lord, how I miss those days. (and that old truck)
