The Japanese still like the W126!

16 years after the last one was built, 30 years after it was designed, the W126 is still the ride of choice for the Yakuza!!

Check out the car scene from this new anime I am checking out, the show itself is marginal but no doubt those are W126's.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNKEYQGYsdY
Look towards the end. The girl the reporter is talking to is Saya's brothers girlfriend, she is also Yakuza. Fast forward to 4 minutes, tell me those are not thinly disguised W126's. Their are quite a few thinely disguised MB's throught this show, lots of W126's, and a couple Rolls as well. Yeah its in Japanese deal with it, all the best stuff is.

Before you know it, Japanese collectors will come on over and start snapping up old W126s, just like they did with '57 Chevys.

It wouldn't surprise me, the W126 is like a fine red wine, it just gets better with age.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Isn't it funny how these technological changes seem to come from Japan, get adopted here, and then the Japanese suddenly begin buying up all of the previous technology as fast as they can. Remember when CD's began to be popular? All of a sudden the Japanese were buying all the LP's a tube amps they could find.

At least one yakuza crew in Akihabara in 2003 was driving a sharp black W140 S600. They were easy to spot since they just pulled up and parked on the sidewalk hopped out to check on the pachinko parlors.

They are coming through Canada now

That's working both ways.

A LOT of them have been leaving Japan lately. They were prestige items over there when new. Many were driven very low mileage and put away.
Quite a few were left hand drive euro-spec cars, and some of them were even US specification left hand drive cars.

A lot of them are being imported into Canada now, as the regulations really become relaxed for 15 year and older cars. Since the last W126ers were '91s, that makes all of them fair game for export from Japan to Canada.

Bruce Mendel, a forum member here, and a self admitted W126 fanatic has connections in Japan, and has been able to bring in some of them in, and knows the process very well.

He finds the really good cars, and brings them here, and resells them. He has his own client list. He's a VERY knowedgeable individual, reputable, fair and REALLY knows these cars.

In the last post at the bottom of the link below, he describes a few Japanese ones he'd imported,
one of them being a 6.0 ltr 560SEL AMG from Japan....

How was the translation since you speak Japanese?

The series itself is ok, I'd say better then most but not world class. I'm only up to episode 19 out of about 50.

The girl is annoying, but she makes up for it in the battle scenes.

You know, I didn't even notice it was translated. We were listening to it while we ate dinner.

I'll have to get back to you on that.

I can't speak Japanese, so I'd be curious as to if the person who translated it can. Most fan subs seem to be pretty good.

So are you the Shinigami now?

Shinigami is a compound noun: shini (death) and gami (god).

Loosely translated, you are the Grim Reaper.

The cars that pulled up to the resteraunt's had chrome mirrors also pay attention to the blinker lights. I think those gangsters where driving W116's.

So, you watch some crappy cartoon, that a 12 year old should have outgrown, and make an assumption about the driving preference of Japanese mafia members?
