Buying an Apple Laptop. Last Minute Advice?

I'm just tired of continually fixing, updating, rebooting, and searching for drivers. Today I'm going out the the Apple store and buying a Mac. Any advice? All I care about is a few pictures and my addressbook that I'd like to transfer over.

Which one? MacBook would be a good fit. Get a bluetooth keyboard too along with the wireless mouse.

I wonder if there is noticable difference between the 1.83 and 2Ghz processors. And only the most expensive Macbook comes in black. My kid got the basic model with 1gb ram. The extra 512mb ram is only $75. Also try installing neooffice before paying for office software.

My wife bought a MacBook last May. It's now having problems shutting down unpredictably and frequently.

My two year old iBook G4 has performed flawlessly under very heavy use (music recording, e-mailing, internet browsing, photo editing, light video editing, lots of downloading, lots of installing/uninstalling of software and peripherals, almost NEVER being turned off or restarted...).

Since the iBook model is one generation outdated, they currently can be bought at a SUBSTANTIAL savings! I paid $1,799 for this one a couple of years ago... they same computer with the same features now sells for less than $1,000.

I hear great things about the new Macs as well... but for most personal computing purposes, the older model might be a great investment.

My only advice would be to get one of the newer MacBooks, with the Intel Duo core processor. Also - I'd spring for a model with 1 GB RAM. I wouldn't be as concerned with the higher processor speed, but the extra ram is a good investment, IMO. You'll always need the extra memory before you would need extra CPU processing power.

Don't worry about them upgrading the ram through apple. They will charge you 3x what the ram is worth. It's incredibly easy to upgrade the ram yourself in a MacBook so there is no reason to throw unnecessary money at them.

Well, Apples are ok in Elementary school libraries, with sixth grade and lower children or in class rooms because they're easy, and disposable. I wouldn't put one in my home or anywhere else though. I prefer real computers. Sorry about the Yugo spelling, Haven't seen the word, or one of the cars in so long that I'd forgotten how they had mispelled YOU-GO, and went and mispelled it my own way....lol. Eugo...Yugo...You-Go? Who cares? They were all gone, a long time ago anyways....lol

The extra 512M for $75 seems like a good deal. Can you really do better than that after-market?
