Does it discuss the bent rod issues?

I would guess not. Looking forward to it, regardless.

The Star is a magazine produced by the MErcedes Benz Club of America. You have to be a member to get it. Its really cool magazine though.

Yeah don't expect the Star to talk about any potential flaws in a Mercedes. The articles always read like a Mercedes advertisement to me.

That is not completely accurate. There have been articles critical of Benz, especially the new Benzes.

They have a "design studio" section and the man doing the article panned the CLS styling, specially it "Japan-lights."

The magazine is more about Benz and the people who own Benzes and their relationship withe theri cars.

I like reading about other Benz owners.

If I want ciritcism of Benz all I need to do is read Consumer Reports.

Just my 0.02 centavos!

Hey Justin, I read about the engine transplant to your wagon.

My son will be driving soon and he gets the 300TE. We have agreed that unless there is a major collision, rendering the car unrepairable, we will fix things as they come up. The car is in really good shape and at 208k miles, it is a joy to keep a senior citizen fit and running.

The article is more about the "journey" that the owner and his car have undertaken.

From the article it seems like he is ready to sell it to a "good family." I am afraid, however, that he probaby wants too much for it.

The wagon is a great car! I love it, I (try) to wash it every weekend, and keep it in top shape! My car has 218,688 miles on the odometer, and it stopped about 4 months ago... I made a trip to LA and back not too long ago, and do just about 250 miles a week.... I have the stuff to fix the odometer, but I just dont have the time to put in the part.

And shes a joy to drive! With the 500E swaybars, and when I slap those 17 inch wheels with what seems to be rubber bands on them, it turns into a different car. But for now, shes got the original 15s.

My dad and I are on the same philosophy with our wagon. We have replaced everthing else, from calipers to transmissions, its a new car - with 218,000 miles on it!

The great part is that she has never left me stranded, anywhere, and she still has the great ride, and that great look. God damn, I love that car!

Resume thread. Sorry for threadjack.

Good point. However the write-ups on newer models are essentially MBUSA promotions (they read like R+T, or C+D blurbs). It gets really engrossing when they do photo-spreads with accompanying articles on vintage Benz's. I lust for those, and the tech help section every quarter.

the star has great focus articles on older benzes, including 123s from time to time.

also it has really in depth servicing tips and discussions.

and it covers social events and driving schools (my 500sec made it in last year at an autocross).

and it covers f1 pretty thoroughly. this is one section i don't read.

and it always has some interesting cars for sale in the classified along with some good parts and vendors. along with some benzes for sale by folks who are extremely proud of them.

the makeover is fine but i really liked the old format too. once i get used to this one i will probably be irritated when they change it again in five years.

Me too, I love the old Benzes. the new ones are OK, but there is something about those old machines. In a word, they are elegant machines, like something out of an old Jules Verne novel. Even taking into consideration their little quirks (except for the swing axle) these are wonderful machines.

i never had a problem with my swing axle handling, on my 61 220b or my 62 190c.

it did NOT like being slid on wet pavement though. it kindof would take a big hop on you.

no fun sliding except on snow or dirt.

My name is mentioned in the new issue. I can't remember what page, but towards the back. I won a nation award for the Benz Scene, our local section newsletter.
