Life's too damn short to worry about what were simple,socially acceptable forms in their day.

As long as you don't start naming the specific god you mean, I don't see the problem. What the Bible-thumping, flat-earth, fundamentalists don't seem to consider is that while Christians were the majority policy makers when these documents were produced, they are fast becoming the minority. If they're not careful, one day they may be the ones having to acknowledge somebody else's god.
