High Tension Power Lines...

Any of you folks live next to them? Would you consider it? How significant would you say is the devaluation on the property affected by said wires/lines?

I've heard people say there is nothing to all the worries about the magnetic fields these thing throw off, but I'm not taking any chances. I was all set to buy a house once, until I walked out into the back yard and saw a high voltage power line running right behind the house.

No

Yes.

It depends. Am I selling or buying? If buying, you bet I will be concerned. If selling, probably not. If I am selling, I can say honestly I don't believe it is an issue. If I am buying, I will "jew" (colloquially speaking) the price down by saying it is an issue.

I've heard that people that live in houses near high tension lines (magnetic field) have higher incidents of cancer. Really!

I wouldn't live near one.

Not to mention - They don’t get along with aircraft, at all.

I’ve seen the nasty side of that get-together, far to often.

Yes. However, there are many things that are not considered. What is the general health of the people originally? Poorer people are less healthy and so who knows? Currently, it is unproven and the results mixed

I looked at a house priced at I think $600kish that was right next door to a set. Inside you couldn't hear anything, but if you went into the back or front yard they were right their and you could hear a buzzing. Don't let the kids fly a kite.

I personaly would not consider such a house, but we have a saying in the industry; "Their is an a** for every seat"

I'd pay more for one.. If your smart, you'd make a large coil of wire in teh attic to inductively take power off the lines and connect it to a transformer.. Free power! I also tend to like electricty, electronics, and noise...

Why? What is your kite string made of? Copper wire? I suppose if you wanted insurance money, you wet the string first.

I know the electric field formula:

C = sqrt((k*q1*q2)/r^2)

But its worth a try.. Especially if the house is directly under the wires

Build yourself a 60 foot platform and get that r value down..............

At 10 feet from the wire you might get enough power to light a flashlight.

What can I power if I built a 68 foot platform and am 2 feet from the wire?
