nissan recall should push mb harness recall

Nissan Recalls More Than 1 Million Cars
Crack In Gas Tanks Create 'Uncomfortable Smell'

TOKYO -- Nissan is recalling more than 1 million vehicles because of problems with the gas tanks.

A Nissan spokeswoman said the recall affects units of the company's March and Cube subcompacts that were manufactured between 1991 and 2000.

The vehicles can have small cracks in the gas tanks that leak fuel fumes. But spokeswoman Pauline Kee said that while it creates "an uncomfortable smell," it isn't a safety problem.

Nissan will repair the problem free of charge. It expects the recall to cost $25.6 million

You know, after someone consumes baked beans, they can sometimes emit an uncomfortable smell. Usually lighting a match masks the odor. Would the match trick work in this case as well?

I don't see how the Nissan recall would have any effect on the MB wiring issue for one very important reason. The wiring issue won't cause the freakin' car to explode!

Considering the last car made with a bad wireing harness is now 13 years old, I think you guys should stop barking up that tree. MB is never going to recall them, its a dead issue.

Maybe Benz won't ever start a long overdue recall... BUT ... in my opinion their reputation is tarnished. Never wanting to admit and do something about a problem that obviously exists; a problem that is worse than having to smell gasoline odor, a problem that has caused my car to stall abrupty while attempting to cross a busy highway, and nearly got me in to an accident.
A problem they to this day pretend to know nothing about. I used to think that Benz was a company that had integrity - not anymore. They have, in my opinion, stooped to the same level as the corporate pussies that made the Ford Pinto fireball decision.

you say never, but if you read the story the nissan recall includes cars made all the way back in 1991! thats 16 years.... and by the way are we sure a harness has never made a car go boom?

Haha.. yes Mercedes is worse than those guys, who engineered a car where the differential would strike the gas tank and could explode upon rear impact.

I think it has more to do with the German engineering culture. They never admit mistakes and according to them there stuff is always perfect. Its not just cars its with anything, try telling a German engineer he screwed something up.

Let me know when Mercedes decides to perform a recall on all Mercedes OM603.97x engines. With every dealer its the same story: "We've never heard of anything like that happening to a 350".

How dare they....

The odd thing is that I remember a few years ago, when in Germany, MB got *****ed out and ridiculed for making cars that started to rust too soon.
They ended up doing repairs/repaints for owners.

And here, we have a more obvious quality issue, and they sit on their thumbs saying: I see nossing, I hear nossing, I did not even vake up siss morning.

I honestly don't know if I will buy another Benz - If I do, I doubt it will be one of their newer ones...I don't trust them anymore.

Now....some of you might say: Come on, Larry, it's a 13 year old car...whaddaya want? Well....I'd probably show you the wiring on my 24 and 36 year old Benz and point out that it, is still intact. I would also tell you that I had no problem replacing a chip in the LH injection module, because engineers failed to anticipate warmer environments (shortsightedness happens); I also had no problem replacing my calipers (1 frozen) and a fuel line section, as well as the MAF sensor - these are all things that are not completely unexpected. But, having the insulation fall off of the copper wires it is supposed to protect, and then denying it's occurance, is not only a bold-faced lie, it's a slap in the face to every Benz owner, including Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler.

off the soapbox for now....
