Another computer question.

I want to uninstall AVG free 7.1 and install AVG free 7.5. The message i received was
Error: instaiiation of the language file c:\program files\grisoft\avg free failed.
It also said that Roxio easy cd&dvd creator was the problem. So i uninstalled Roxio and i still can't uninstall it. Help

That's odd, I have installed AVG on many machines without a hitch. Is the installer possibly corrupted?

Is that an insult or are you trying to be funny?

You don't have to uninstall 7.1. The 7.5 installer program will take care of that. He was referring to the installer program, not you.

If I remember right, when you run the program, you have to pick "Repair", in order to do the upgrade.

Powerpig got it. You thought I was referring to YOU as the "installer". I refer to the .exe or .msi files as "installer". Oops. :D

I would try shutting down all unecessary programs in the tray or go into the task manager and axe everything and try running the installation again.

Sorry! My mistake.

420benz 04-03-2007 06:52 PM

Just installed it again. I have two AVG icons on my desktop. If i click on the 7.5 it goes through another search. If i go to Start All Programs, the old one is still there. If i click Uninstall it tells me [Installation Failed]

What kind of search are you referring to? If the 7.5 works, just delete the 7.1 icon. Sometimes programs uninstall but leave icons and other stuff behind. If you want to have some real fun, you can edit the program out via your registry.

Sorry,I don't know how to do that.

The Icon it put on my desktop is only an Install icon.It seem it never really installs.

powerpig 04-03-2007 07:33 PM

I take it you're running XP.
Do a system restore to a earlier time before you tried to uninstall 7.1 and install 7.5.
Re download 7.5.
Don't try to uninstall 7.1, just run the 7.5 install. You should be good to go.

Don't forget that when it prompts you, you want to pick the "Repair" option.

I got that same message and managed to get it installed. My memory is a little fuzzy but I think there was an option to install it anyway???

Not a big fan of AVG, personally. I used it in the past, and found that it liked to be a resource hog (plus it had a tendency to miss viruses on some machines, when tested.).

My recommendation? Avast Antivirus Home. Installs without a hitch, they update on a regular basis, and it does a darn good job without chewing up your system resources. Best part? It's free! www.avast.com if you want to give it a shot. Otherwise, I suggest uninstalling AVG and re-installing from a different source. Maybe the file you downloaded was corrupt, as someone else stated. Bad RAM can also cause data corruption / faulty installs... so run memtest32 (Free downloadable boot disk / CD tool), and see if your RAM is ok.
