Aside from the taste...?
So are there any Docs in the house? Something's got me curious..about thermometers.
My niece, is sick, she has the flu. She's only a little kid. My sister in law took her temp, with a rectal thermometer. What's the big difference between a rectal and an oral thermometer?...Aside from the taste? Why is it done like this? I mean is the temp more acurate, or different if it's checked rectally as opposed to orally? Is there an actual difference, in the thermometer itself..? |

I believe that the variability in the procedure that is used with the oral thermometer produces somewhat variable results.
The rectal thermometer provides exactly the same result, every time, because there is no difficulty, or variability in the procedure. |

Actually, they are not. There is a larger bulb on the rectal thermometer.........more contact area.........possibly??
