123,TD, Leveling system into 123 Coupe..CE/CD

Is it possible to install the suspension leveling system from a TD wagon, into either one of my CD's, or my CE, Coupe? I'd like the extra payload capacity, and think it would be a great addition to the coupe. However, I know it was never offered, and there was supposed to be some sort of reason for it, but I don't know what the reason actually was. Any onfo from anyone would be very appreciated...Thanks in advance.

the leveling system was offered as an option in other markets. i have seen 300ds and 240ds sedans with it.

so it should be possible. a lot of work though.

on those older cars it might cost more than they are worth unless you do pick and pull and do all the labor yourself.

they will carry a lot of weight without complaining in stock form, what you going to do carry 200 gallons of moonshine?

^^^Ask this one in Diesel Discussion for the simple reason is that almost ALL the W123 body cars sold in the USA were diesels, so that is where you'd get the highest number of good technical responses.

(Personally, I'm sure it could be retrofitted, but it would be a REAL expensive
job to do it, and all you are getting is the load leveling feature. You'd need to anticipating a really big load to be hauled in the coupe to want this, and it's likely not too many owners did, in the first place. Though the feature was standard in the W126 560SEC coupes.)

I have no idea, of what the system consists of.., as far as components are concerned. Are you serious...The head is different? I didn't think it had anything at all to do with the engine of the car, aside from either a bolt in accessory pump, or maybe an under-hood electric pump. The money, is of no concern for me, however, the hassle, sounds like a lot more tan the whole thing is worth. I was thinking it would be a fitting addition, to the trailer hitch I have planned for the car. I did, however, think it would be more closely related to the system in My Oldsmobile wagon, with an electric, underhood, fender mounted pump, and sensors in the shocks. That is a closed loop system, independent, of the rest of the car....Maybe I'll stick one of those systems in the car instead. Lotta old G.M. wagon parts out there.

I always assumed that the w123 wagon rear suspension was significantly different than the coupe or sedan owing to the need for the wagon's relatively low cargo floor.

I think I might have seen only one, 123 wagon in person, in my life before, and never got very close to it. I just assumed, that like most other manufacturers, all they did, was take a sedan, and extend the roof, and body accordingly..I didn't know they were engineered, that much differently.

Too bad you couldn't just put a set of Gabriel Hi-jackers on it, it worked fine for my '67 Cougar a loooong time ago when I had that car

the suspension i believe is the same if the leveling system is taken as an aside. the biggest difference is that the tank resides under the floor in the wagon and the spare upright on the left side.

the wagon has the leveling system and thicker sway bars.

the sls should bolt up except for the head, which is different.
