I cant have a kid for a woman, only she can do it. Thus she has to take time off for that, someone has to support her. If no kids are involved don't get married. Then, it remains 1 income households. Get married and everyone works, thats 2 incomes, housing will go up accordingly.

Ok, she can have the kid. No doubt about that.

Why? Why can't YOU give up your job to take care of the kid after the birth? Still doesn't answer the question of why she should place her future in your hands tho. No job = no money = placing your life in someone's hands. Would YOU want to do that? I wouldn't.

Because in the 3-6 months she was out I got a raise and a promotion. More money, going in circles chief. I'm better suited to bring home the bacon. Not to mention, I married a woman with maternal instincts, shes neat, clean, tidy and patient. All the things I'm not, because Im heterosexual and thus got a feminine woman. So, she's better suited to take care of the home. If I was feminine and sucked at making money I would stay home.

Well, you married a women who earned less than you. What if she earned more than you, would you stay home? Further to that, would you place your future in her hands? That is what you are asking other women to do. Now, in the world of Beaver, Brady, etc, etc, it worked. Would it work today?

It is not a question of earning money. It is a question of independence. I earn my own money means I am independent of you. I spend your money means I am sucking on your tit at your pleasure. Should things change, I will be caught between a rock an a hard place.

As to asking my parents about this head of household crap, I don't bother. Why? Because I saw my grandmother. She was illiterate. Her skills were being feminine and playing Mahjong. Neither were marketable. When Granddad decided to start a family of his own with another woman, the best she could do was stick along and take whatever he gave her. When asked why she couldn't leave, well, I think you can see where I am going with that. Maybe you could tell her about this "head of the household" notion of yours.

Well, I was using his description but yes, in that description, all she needs to know is how to be barefoot and pregnant.

My wife had some stupid degree where she couldn't have much of a future. I helped her become a RN and now a Nurse Practitioner. She has a career. Should anything change, well, she can take care of herself. In that respect, she is my partner. I don't have dead weight along with me. She has her own money so she doesn't need to come begging me for more money to buy something she wants. She can make her own decisions provided it doesn't involve me. I advise her but she is free to ignore it if she wishes as long as she takes what comes with her choice.

Independence, is one thing. In a proper household it isn't an issue. If you're independent, yet again, why would you be married?????? That's kind of the opposite of independent, its a union based on mutual responsibilities. I'm not asking women to do anything, I'd take care of my woman. What others do is on them, I'm asking everyone to do things right. Not fit to get married? Don't. Everyones working and can't raise the kids right, which you shouldn't have had? Don't. Want a career instead of taking care of household responsibilities? Go for it, but quit screwing everything up in the process. Look, I've been proved right. Housing went through the roof. Now, everyones foreclosed because it's too high, even for dual incomes.

Dude, you can't use a guy skipped out on his wife as an example of how a household -should- work. Thats the thing, households aren't working. Thats what the problem is. Besides, just because you're a homemaker doesn't mean you need to be a societal retard. Give me a break.

Who said anything about wanting to be independent? I wouldn't want to marry someone with no personal ambitions beyond keeping a house that I'm paying for. You want that, fine. It doesn't appeal to me in the least.

I don't know where you get the idea that DINKs are the cause of high housing prices. I'd like to see evidence of this. But if it's true, well, I'm really screwing up the works.

I'm sure it's not unusual on a M-B discussion forum for a single person to make well over double the average income for his area - and to live with someone else who also does!

Why else would housing prices....DOUBLE?

A woman doesn't just take care of the house and live in a closet, again you too, if you need to be explained how a household works, ask the parents.

Ask your parents? My father is dead; he died of malaria years ago. My mother then had to go to school, having no income path at the time. I think I know how she feels about this.

House prices doubled because loans were cheap for a long time. Most people decide how much they can afford based on the monthly payment, not the total outlay. They're fools, but they drive the market.

Well, there you go... YET another example of the non ideal household. Only one income then huh?

Exactly, double income is double payment, if I'm selling real estate and people come in with twice as much they can afford, gues what I do to the price?

Well, if you have this proper household in Utopia, it won't be a problem. However, lets talk real life, shall we? Real life is far from a proper situation. Being independent means that you are able to take care of yourself, should the situation arise. Yes, you take care of your woman. But what if something changes where you cannot or will not? Now she is at your mercy. Should she have her own career, things are different. Yes, divorce is up. However, the problem you may cite is that women are more independent. Also, they don't have to put up with as much crap as the previous generations did because they can paddle their own boat. Why is a woman going for a career screwing up things and you not? Because it doesn't fit into the idea that the man is the one that brings home the bacon?

OK, where is the documented evidence for this housing issue since you have been proved right? Anyone collaborates this notion with you that has proven facts?

I am saying that even back then, it happens that things changed. My grandma could do nothing about it besides take it lying down. So yes, if that is how you are judging that things are not working, you are right. However, that is only if you feel that a woman should have to stick with a man who has changed even if she doesn't really want to but cannot move because she has no choices.

If you raise the price based on that, you'll simply sell it to someone else. I'm not the fool that you take me for.

This deserves it's own special comment. One income, but not a very good one. After all, missionaries to Nigeria don't do it for the money.
