That sounds like an super-modified M117 560SEL engine.

So that's why fuel is so expensive!
Forget supply and demand. |

I worked briefly at the shop where this thing got brought regularly for service. I've seen it up close. Recollections, having heard it drive by from the trailer to the shop, and having poked around it (no ride, the thing had a dry-sump leak among other issues in june 2006, I left that place before they got it fully up to par roadability-wise:
It *is* a 560SEL engine, under all that. The Hewland was pretty loud. Rear view vision is almost nonexistent. It's not actually a Mercedes, it's a Lotec. Mercedes built the engine. The interior is more of the 917/GT40 class- it's not a pure racer but it's very far from luxurious, and not to MB standards. The star was added to the hood after original sale, at least from what I've seen in pics.

Did I say 168, duh, my bad.
yes, the interior is lacking and looks too much like a kit car inside, but the body is way cool nonetheless. |

Using a 560SEL's frontal area and drag coefficient, actual top speed with the twin-turbo M117 should range from 220 - 230 mph on that particular setup. It would be ready for liftoff, methinks.
I wouldn't drive any car that fast, anywhere. 100 - 110 mph is enough for me, sustained. I've gone much higher (briefly), but the scenery moves that much quicker, and you really can't make split second decisions when you're traveling at velocities past 160 feet per second, let alone ~ 400 feet per second (OMG). What if your tires fail? What if a medium-sized FFC is sun-bathing in your lane? What if you lose control? This is what:
