Hardcore yacht racing...

Maybe its because its spring but I have been surfing sailing video's for the last hour. Man I need to get out on the water in bad way. This looks a lot more exciting then the near shore stuff I have been doing!

Shame you're not near us...our club has 14 Sunfish that we need to clean and rig for the season...you could help varnish rudders and daggerboards! The smell of varnish always gets me in the mood for sailing.

I'd love to help, thats what I have been doing for years. Tomarrow I'm installing a floor on a C&C 37, with a ton of other stuff. The boat is a total POS, but its in a good location so fun to work on. Its an old race boat, so their isn't much left.

(Make you wish for a personal EPIRB and a SS harness.)

You guys need to play with motor yachts. Not sail boats. Nothing like having a few thousand horsepower (atleast), worth of Diesel engines, moving you around on a 50-60 foot or bigger, private cruiser. This, with all the comforts of home, and all the fun of being at sea, all mixed in one.

I gave up on the America's Cup on the day I saw my first Whitbread video.

Nothing like the smell of Diesel with a nice tail wind

Cruising the open ocean on a sailboat is a fulfilling experience, unlike your powerboating it take skill and endurance.

"Ocean racing is like standing in a cold shower, tearing up $1000 bills."

Last wear, I caught a promo for the Volvo Offshore Challenge. The way those '70 boats rip through the water and the manuvers the helmsman makes to keep them in the groove, reminded me of the good 'ol days on the 505 and the FD.

I'm too fat and slow for any of that fun these days.

Its a different ball game. You can't go anywhere in a powerboat just near shore, well unless its a trawler, or quite large. If you want to you know go somewhere you need to sail. Now if you want to fish, thats challanging from a sailboat, but doable!

I have been busting my a$$ and my wallet getting my Ericson 38 ready for the season. Waiting for parts that are over due but still cranking away at all the little details, recommissioning systems, etc. Boats are a crapload of work. I don't race it. My wife races Sunfish and Tech dinghys. My idea of racing on water is cigarette boats. Way more exciting than auto racing IMHO. RT
