Denison, Earlham, Hanover: my possible transfer choices
Well, I didn't end up transferring last semester. I would really like to transfer to Cornell College in IA, but my mom is against it because of their one-course-at-a-time schedule. So, I'm left with Denison, Earlham, and Hanover as my last 3 possible choices. I would really like to start at a different school next fall and since I'll be a junior at the time, this is my last possible opportunity that I can transfer without screwing myself over. I originally wanted to go out east but that would cost too much money both because of the distance (getting there and back without my own car to take) and room and board is significantly higher than in the midwest. Anyway, of the 3 choices that I have, I am probably leaning towards Denison though I haven't been accepted yet. Do any of you guys know anything about any of these 3 schools or have you attended any of them? Earlham and Hanover are in Indiana while Denison is outside Columbus, OH.
Thanks for any input. David

Tell your mother to rethink Cornell. It, like Colorado College in Co. Springs uses the 'one class at a time' method of education. I know people who have gone thru that system and they have an impressive education. It's not a good reason to exclude the school.
Earlham is a Quaker college with an excellent reputation. A very good friend of mine who lives in Franklin, In, sent both his sons to Hanover. One just graduated and the other transferred in as a sophomore after attending the University of Oklahoma, Norman for his freshman year. I don't know much about the school, but both his boys are very sharp. If you want to talk to them, I can probably get their e-mail addresses. However, if I lived in Indiana, I'd really be trying to get my kid to go to school in Boston, NY, San Francisco, LA, Chicago, London, Paris, Barcelona or Frankfurt, probably for the same reasons you were looking East. Make sure you look outside the country also. University of Toronto is great. I don't know how they deal with US transfer students, but I sent one of my students there and she ended up with a great job at a publisher in NYC.

hanover is near madison indiana, right?
i don't know about their education but their campus is lovely. it sits on the banks of the ohio. it is isolated from everything else and has its own housing subdivision right next to campus. tom w

#1 Why are you making college choices and getting advice on a car forum?
#2 Why are you considering schools you know nothing about? Decide on a major, make a list of the schools that have it and start eliminating. This is something you do in 11th grade, not as a junior in college. Quote:

I can tell you that Denison is regarded VERY highly by many of the locals. The town it's located in is called Granville and is quite picturesque......it's roughly 45 minutes due east of Columbus. Good luck!!!

My parents are concerned with where I go to school because they would end up paying for me to go forth for holidays, etc. and they aren't wealthy. I am not ruling out Cornell, I'm working with my mom on that.
Emmerich, I'm not considering colleges I know nothing about. I have already picked them based on major, etc. I was curious to see if anyone here was perhaps an alum. and could offer some insight that I might not get elsewhere. Besides, I know that kerry is in academia and therefore would have some idea about college's reputations in that field, which means a lot when one wants to go onto professional school. I also know that t walgamuth is in my area (within about 30 miles in fact) and might have some experience with some of these schools since they're in the remote area. I would like to go further away to school but it would cost quite a bit more to go to school because of room and board, travel, and tuition. Thanks for the insight guy, I find it particularly interesting that many have heard of Cornell since it's a small school in the middle of nowhere. Thanks Again, David

kerry, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you PM me an email address of one of the kids who goes to Hanover/did go? If it's too much trouble, don't bother.
twalg, yes, I believe it is by Madison, IN, overlooking the Ohio river. Thanks David P.S. Would it be acceptable to wear a light colored summer suit for a college interview? I probably would not wear a tie with it since I don't think these interviews are generally very formal. I have an interview with Denison and Earlham next week since finals are this coming week. Thanks again for everything.

I wish. Sure beats the midwestern winters, and summers for that matter. I hate humid heat.
Thanks David

why do you say "mmmm girls"? I would plan on Cornell having girls since it's 55% female.
Thanks David
