I've only run in 1/2 marathons. That was a long time ago. I never had any desire to go the full 26 miles. My knees are still in pretty good shape today as a result.

Not a marathoner - not yet anyway - but a runner. I run to clear my head and stay in shape. To be honest, I don't have a real desire to train for, or participate in, a marathon.

A few years ago I was running steadily and increased both my pace and distance. I realy got into the whole challenge part of it and as my fitness increased, it got easier to just keep on running. I'm 6'1" and naturally slim, so I like to sit around 180 lbs. During this period, I dropped down to 168 lbs or so and my friends and family, esp. my wife, told me I was too damn skinny (I was). I can't imagine what a marathon would do to me!

I'd have to start hanging out with that skeletal grandma in the other thread...

I’ve pulled a few “all nighters” (rather illegal, marathon flights) in the cock-pit. And, I did train most of my life for them.

Does that count?

Nope. Guess not.
We do the cycling thing here quite a bit. Not big on beating up the joints running.

Chris - You can come hang with us before you’d have to start hanging out with her. Eeek.

I trained and ran the Honolulu Marathon. Novice runners, provided that they don't get injured during training, can finish it with approximately 7 months of regular training, throwing in a few 10K and a half marathon two months before the marathon. I did the traditional "slow and steady pace" method, while I know of a lot of people that do well with the "run and walk" interval method.
