Ubuntu, anyone?

I just downloaded and tested the latest edition of Ubuntu Linux (v7.04), named 'Feisty Fawn'. Perhaps try it yourselves sometimes. Never liked Linux much before: always seemed to require a lot of black magic. Not this release: this one is a Windows killer.... Installs in less than 20 minutes, and runs incredibly fast and smooth, and all common applications included. And its FREE.
I tell you, at least for desktops, the days for Windows are counted, Ubuntu is AWESOME. Happy computing :)

Cheers

I'm running the earlier version of ubuntu.

Besides getting used to installing stuff; it runs a hell of a lot smoother than windows could dream of.

I've installed Red Hat, Suse, Fedora, Debian, and CentOS. I've heard good things about Ubuntu. I just can't get over the name - sounds like an African tribal warrior or something. :)

I also think it's a stupid name for an OS. Time will tell as to it's worth I guess. Suffice to say I'm not losing any sleep over yet another prophesied end of Windows.

Ubuntu is nice, I ran an older version. I never got used to installing/ungrading modules under the debian system, I prefer rpms. My current install of Mandriva 2007 was nearly as easy to install, and there is LOTS out there for it.

...and "windows" is a good name for an OS?

it's just different :)
