In today's Wide World of Litigation Sports, the last thing that I would do is advise someone on how to defeat a safety feature. The chime will turn off if you wear the seat belt.

I was a teenager when the new 1974 cars came out. Most were equipped with the ignition/seat belt interlock, which prevented the engine from being started unless the seatbelt was first latched. When you turned the key without latching the belt, you were greeted with the sound of some of the harshest, most annoying buzzers known to man, coupled with a generously-sized "Fasten Seat Belt" light. Those drivers who unlatched after the vehicle was started were subjected to the aforementioned audiovisual show until they were blinded and their ears bled. Three of my relatives purchased new 1974 cars and were in Hell from this system. As I had a knack for things mechanical, I was enlisted to find a way to defeat the system. It was a toughie: I peered down under the front seat, found a wire that ran from the floor to the seat and unplugged it. Welcome back to 1973.
