New 300E

This is my first ever post. Two weeks ago I bought a 1987 300E with 90,400 miles from a guy in Philadelphia. I flew out there, made the purchase, and drove it 600 miles home. It ran great--no problems at all. It's had essentially 3 owners and seems to be well taken care of. I'm pretty thrilled with it overall. This is the first Benz I've owned and I'm totally impressed with it.

It hasn't been driven much in the last few years, so I sort of expected doing some things to it--I'm just glad it didn't strand me in the middle of PA or OH!... Last week, the odometer stopped working, so I got online to look for some help and have been absolutely amazed at the info available for do-it-yourselfers... Turns out the pot-metal gear had slipped off the pin/shaft allowing the gears to move out of place just enough not to work... After learning how to get the instrument cluster out (some homemade removal tools made from BBQ skewers worked great), a little loctite seems to have fixed the problem... For now, anyway (hopefully it lasts). Now I'm trying to figure out why the aux. fan isn't coming on. It doesn't work on low w/ the AC or on high when the engine gets hot. I know the fan motor works (ran a jumper to it this afternoon and it worked...) so I'm thinking it's the relay. I'm sifting through threads on the subject for more help...

Two weeks into it and having some issues, but like I said, it hasn't been driven much at all in the last 4 years, so I hope these things work themselves out.

Looking forward to reading all your posts and getting to know the car!

Not sure about 300's, but on my 420, the resistor (in essence a large spring) is mounted on the drivers side fender, behind the headlamp.
One of my wires has melted off twice so far (that I know of).

Welcome to the forum, and have fun!
