My newest "middle of nowhere" find- euro 380se

I picked up another project this morning...
A euro 1980 380SE. Bought it for way cheap. It's actually a nice car. Minimal rust, good interior, etc. Guy started putting a new water pump on it and never finished. So I have a trunk full of parts to put it back together with AND a big box of brand new Mercedes parts. So I'm going to try and see if I can put this thing back together.
Other cool stuff:
16x8 (yea 16 inch!!) AMG Pentas, two have AMG center caps. Lorinser lowering springs, which I have all the paperwork from when they were purchased and installed in Germany back in 1980.
It's got some cool options too- dual manual climate control with A/C, headlight WASHERS but not WIPERS, manual rear windows, power fronts, rear headrests, no cargo nets on the rear of the front seats, and the one that strikes me the most- only the drivers seat is heated.

Needless to say, I can't wait to get started on this new project!

Here are some pics

That's a diamond in the rough, but for sure, it's a diamond. The wheels alone are worth a fortune, they are just about the holy grail for the W126 cars. It's a nice lowering job, though those dark plastic wind deflectors were a kind of German "status" thing. And the close-coupled look of the SE is especially nice with euro lights and bumpers. As an '80 W126, it is a pretty rare car in the USA, because those model year 126ers never made it to the Mercedes dealers as new cars.

Hopefully, it's been converted to the double row timing chain.

Nice car!

Thanks for the comments, guys.

As for the wheels, I know they're rare, but I've never seen a set of 16x8 pentas for sale. Any idea how much a set like these would sell for?

Nice find. I've seen Penta's go for $1000/set and the AMG center caps go for $150/set, the later on eBay.

I want those wheels and lowering springs so bad...so bad...

You know it probably has a lot of rust under it, you really should part it out. Send me a PM and I'll take those parts off your hands for you!

my eighty four sd had the euro headlights.

i always loved the look of them.

and i love the rear of the roofline on a 126 body too, it is only surpassed by the sec of the same vintage....

and the new clr.

the manager of the local mercedes dealer lives in a really nice apartment next to my office building and always has a new mb to drive. the last few weeks he has been driving a dark blue clr. it is driving me crazy.

Two thoughts:

That is *exactly* the look and stance I'm aiming for with my 300SD- Pentas with Lorinser springs, eh? Gorgeous!

A CLR? Do you mean CLS? CLR is an excellent product for cleaning shower heads, but I didn't know it was a Benz model...

Nice car.

Penta wheel prices can vary. Nice (PERFECT) sets go for $1200 or so, at least what I've seen. Decent sets in the 500-800 range, generally without the tires mounted. I've got a set of new 9x16's et 0 that are worth a good deal more. AMG caps can be purchased at the dealer. Part number is on the back Don't be had on ebay for something that isn't that expensive.

Thanks for the reply.
The price quotes you gave me on the Pentas make me feel pretty good...considering that's over twice what I paid for the entire car!!

Yea, its the CLS class. I love em. One of the best looking new cars out there.
It's one of those cars on my "to buy when they depreciate enough for me to afford one" list.

They are not. I don't know where the idea that only the US 3.8 had a single row chain came from but it is not true.

I've always thought the US market motors got the single row timing chains -- then MB switched to double row in '84.
