Car insurance for an 18 year old.......

HELP!

I need to get my son(18) off my policy and into his own. My rates are going to be outrageous soon.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to save some $$$$$.

HE has a 92 nissan sentra and they want almost 2000 per year for liability.

Sheeeeet!

Thanks

Well, shop it. I'm assuming that he is not seeking collision or comprehensive coverage on a 15 year-old car. Is he in college? Is the college in a more insurance friendly community than Miami?

I was at $2,400 at the peak, now I'm down to $1,800. My record is spotless too.

It sucks, if he gets his own policy it will probably be $3k per year. Not much he can do about it.

The interesting part is it only cost me like $30 more a month to add the 300SD when I had it. But I know I am paying a few hundred a year more just because its a MB.

He will be going to a local comm college in september.

I was thinking of changing his dl to our house in central florida where the rates are much much cheaper.

So cheap(65% less) I am tempted.....

Sounds like a great reason for the Insurance COmpany to deny a claim to me.

Don't see the relevance between your denied claim and me insuring a car in another county.

Pls elaborate.

Did he attend driving school? Up here, that saves on rates, but you have to pay the school fee, so not sure how it balances out.

Car alarms usually give 10% off, as do multiple vehicles.

But like others have stated, not much you can do about an 18yr male WRT insurance rates, other than pay up.

Plantman- I feel your pain. Call Liberty mutual and see what they offer, when I lived in Miami they were the least expensive. Sometimes they offer a discount for good grades and if they have taken Driver's Ed in school. Good luck!

I guess it depends - does he live in Miami or Central FL?

Varies by state

Insurance rates vary by state. I think the state of Inebriation probably has the highest rates of all.
