French "bullitt" car chase???WTF???

Couple of real junkers, a Fiat 124 and a mid 60's German Opel Rekord ('60's Ford Taunus ?what?)

Looks like it was made in about 1967 or 1968? How many of the everyday cars do you recognize or remember? Hillman Imp, Triumph Herald, Ford Cortina, Peugeot 403 & 404, MB 250S, Heckflosse taxicab & Ponton, '60 Chevy Apache Panel truck, '61 Ford Truck, VW411 & bug, BMW 1600, Toyota Corona, NSU Prinz,Ford Capri,

The close-ups of Belmondo wildly whipping the steering wheel out of sync of the rear projection images make this clip for me. The Fiat 124, which debuted around 1966, was held in fairly high regard by the car enthusiast magazines of the day. The Russkies apparently liked it enough to produce it as the Lada.

Fiat

Very cool video

In high school I drove my mother's 1977 Fiat 131 (Brava) 5 speed.

What a great car. Revy engine, great handling. Loved the 4 wheel drifts.

Too bad I T-boned a Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon with it. Thank god for seatbelts!

I once owned a Fiat 124. What a POS! That was my first wife's idea and it wasn't much better than many of her other ideas. No more Eye-talian cars for me.

Cool *** I'd take the 124 Sport Coupe over the Sedan... ***

I survived a head-on with a Toyota B210 in a '72 124 Sport Coupe. What saved my life was the fact that the spare tire is stored in front of the driver, horizontally, above the transmission. It took most of the impact and didn't lose any air...

A few pieces of continuity were screwed up...

You could tell the chase "close-ups" at the beginning were "sound-staged" 'cause the driver didn't exhibit the normal "G-force" body twists/movement that would be associated with even everyday driving, let alone higher-than-normal parking-lot twists and turns...

Hey, at least lean a little (a little method-acting here!!!)...

The black chase car - started throwing oil long before the Fiat...

The "worry beads" in the black car - changed their hanging setup every other shot...

The Fiat "lost" its LF hub-cap, then "magically" it reappears on the car later in the chase...

A fun piece of video - not anywhere near the level of Bullit or the 7-Ups in death or destruction...

Sorta' reminded me of Milwaukee/Chicago I-94 action during rush-hour back in the 70's/80's...

Big Fins in Germany!

Talk about continuity.....Look at this chase in Hamburg.....Can't they tell the difference between a two door 1958 Plymouth Fury and a four door 1960 Dodge Dart?

At least the second clip had a Citroen DS in it- even if it was coming apart. I couldn't spot one in the first clip although the country was full of them at the time.

Wow, this scene equals if not tops: Bullitt, Ronin and the French Connection.

Tnx for posting

Yes, Jim, it was a DATSUN B210 - I remembered the series, I couldn't remember the manufacturer. Thanks for unstopping the Brainfart.

BTW, the driver of that piece of work came out much worse than I did. He survived, but he spent 16 days in IC, had the left side of his body screwed, pinned and plated back together and I haven't heard from him or his family since the day I checked out of the hospital 17 days after the accident.
