Toilet question
Got a slow flushing toilet in an apt. Ran a 3' auger down it, pulled out a tampon. Still flushing slow. Ran a 6' auger down the toilet, still flushing slow.
I don't really understand how I can get a 6' auger down the toilet and it still runs slow. The tub ties into the line about 3' under the toilet and it's running fine so the main line seems to be clear.

Check the vent stack. Could be a dead squirrel or something plugging it.

Regular load = single flush....
Big load = double flush (watch the water level).......

The other fixtures on the line seem to be running fine so I can't see how it is vent.
Double flush would be a problem. It's running slow enough that on a single flush it's filling up the bowl to within about 2" of the rim. It takes about 30 or 40 seconds to drain.

My kids flushed a plastic toy boat down there. It flushed slow and the auger went right past it. I had to yank the toilet off to find it and then get it out.

I saw a plumber use an electric auger when we had a septic system problem. It's a heavy duty serious piece of equipment that will chew up anything in it's path. Might be a worthwhile investment.

I once had a plugged up toilet and after much effort hired a plumber to remove and inspect since it was in a basement and the job could easily have turned difficult if the attachments failed. He found a pair of the tenants underwear stuck in the toilet! How could you mistakenly lose a pair of underwear in the toilet???? Forgot to take them off before letting out an explosive load?

I've got a really serious electric auger but I would have to remove the toilet anyway to get it down that pipe.

It's a three story house with a very steep roof, so getting up there to look into the vent stack is virtually impossible for me. However, I do think a problem with the vent is not totally ruled out. I just realized there is an old washer line stub tied into that pipe on the second floor. I could remove the cap and it would provide a vent if the main vent is plugged higher up. It might be a worthwhile experiment.

check the little hole down in the bottom of the bowl,on the front side,if they get plugged up with calcium they won't flush worth a damn, some toilets have em and some don't.
