Just bought a 1987 Volvo 740 gle

The guy was basically giving the car away, becasue the headlights did not work. Took it home went through my box of spares and found a relay and the lights came to life. Don't know what I'm going to do with it as I already have too many cars, but the a/c works wich is kind of nice for summer. My girl friend accuses me of buying cars like she buys shoes! LOL

free volvos are a good thing. especially the 4 cyl, rwd ones. drive it for the summer, then sell it to pay for the relay you used to fix it. then take the rest of the money and buy her some more shoes!

Lucky you

I had a 1991 Volvo 740 for years, and even I could fix the headlights myself.

They are really, really good, sturdy, safe, durable little cars. they will run 100,000's of thousands of miles, like a good Mercedes. I got a high mileage badge for it, in fact.

They are fantastic city cars, and with just a 34 foot turning radius, will turn on dime. They have very ergonomic and comfortable seats, and logically placed controls, and their little 112 hp engines are economical and really tough.

Great in the snow, too. How good? Check THIS:

and, you can soup 'em up and then they will *really* move!!!!

I love 'em, almost cried that foggy morning the flatbed finally hauled it away to be donated. Someone else bought it, in Benicia, and as far as I know, it's still on the road..

I'd love to find a 740 wagon, just to haul junk around in it. I briefly owned a 240 wagon that was just about worn out, but it was cheap and cheerful transportation for awhile.
