Do you 'fess to your Significant Other what you spend on your toys...?

Luckily I have my money, he has his - and we split the bills.

He'd have a cow. Or kittens.

Maybe one(s) with a small 3 pointed star on their head(s), but there'd be some sort of extreme unhappiness going on.

Some things are better Not Known. Like the checks I write to my mechanic!

Howabout ya'all?

Ann

Yeah, full disclosure. I am a very honest drunk and would ultimately tell anyway, so it isn't worth the hassle to lie

I walked into the office of a guy I play golf with one day though, and he had a huge motorcycle in his office (Valkayre?). Anyway, it was about $25K and his wife didn't know he had bought it.

Wife has a fair idea what the cars cost. And the parts too for that matter. Like she knows I just spent about $1500 getting a new top and molding for her SL. When she sees that, she doesn't complain much if I wanna drop a grand or so on some old rust bucket that cought my eye. (or, recently, a '76 300D). Keeping the fleet running IS expensive. Good thing is, we know everyone is safely inside a Benz when they venture out. Since daughter has cracked up two of them with no damage to herself, we're pretty much on the same page. Easier to tell the truth, and I'm a lazy person.

I use "the 48 rule" with my wife.

She gets 48 hours to notice my new purchase and complain or give me "the eye". If she misses that window, I'm free and clear. I did this with the S600 and failed miserably. Thing is, what was I going to do? Return it?

Yes.
Besides - Most of them are “Our Toys”.
And, she’s usually there when we pick them up.

Though the thought has crossed my mind to just buzz the house one day, and when she gets on the radio, say: “Guess what I got?!”
(But - She’d probably park a truck on the runway, and say: “Hope you have enough fuel to make Mexico!”)

It ain't always that easy grasshopper. Unless you want to upset domestic tranquility on a frequent basis. (I do it often).

If you get married with that attitude, you may not be married for long.

Why I work and get paid XXX, she works and will get paid XXX. So I won't give her crap about what she buys for herself, and vise versa.

I don't think I will ever get married so I'm not worrying.

Well - You might make that work.

Until you vacation together.
Or buy anything that might break together.

And stay the hell away from any and all credit cards or community property states.

i pay for it all out of my business account. along with a good many of the household bills, so she doesn't say much. i also keep her car on the road and fix her flat tires and such. she does fill the tank though....with a card that i pay for.

it really honks her off though that she cannot get her car in the garage from all my car junk and my old sportscar on the right.

so in the winter i start her car and scrape the windshield for her.

but for the most part she just isn't interested in cars at all....other than to just love her pt cruiser....(dang POS).

she is a pretty ideal wife for a car crazy.

My wife is in charge of the business's taxes, insurance, and the books (glad it's not me!). Therefore, she knows all the numbers in our daily lives. Consequently, I make sure she knows all the numbers of the cars - everyone of them.

Hiding money things from my wife is like hiding a donut from Rosie O'Donnell - she'll find it.
